CQ-20B, Protools, Click Track, QuickTime

Hello. I am using Protools to play a backing track with a click track. I was able to map the backing track to Output 1-2 and the click track to Output 17-18. Then in MixPad, I was able to assign Channels 1-2 to receive the backing track input, and ST1 to receive the click. To do this, I had to make sure the stream setting was in Multitrack. So far so good. Whether listening in MainLR or one of the other output channels, all my musicians can mix the balance of the two to their taste - works great.

Here is where I run into a problem. We tried to capture a performance in QuickTime, but the resulting audio is NOT the MainLR mix as specified in Config → USB/SD → channel 23/24 setting. In short, we can’t get rid of the click. We also noted that what got recorded in Quicktime did not have any of the reverb/FX that we can hear when we monitor MainLR.

If I change the stream setting to Stereo, the Quicktime recorded audio now has the MainLR mix (the reverb is back), but I can no longer separate out the backing track and click inputs.

I am using a MacBook Pro for both the Protools playback and the Quicktime video capture.

What is a work around that I might consider?

Thank you for your help.

It will be a routing issue somewhere. Either you are not sending out the main L/R channels to the USB interface, or your recording device is not looking at the correct channels (or both).

Thank you for your help.

The Mac’s QuickTime Player that we are using for video capture does not have an option to select a channel - it only recognizes the CQ-20B device as an option for audio (as opposed to the computer’s or the camera’s multi-in mic.) I should mention that I have no trouble recording multitrack back INTO Protools.

Since there is a difference in the QuickTime recorded audio when streaming as Stereo vs Multitrack, this makes me think that the routing error might be in the MixPad app (1.2.2 for MacOS). So then, aside from the setting I mentioned above (also in the attached screenshot), where else would I check that the routing of channels to the USB device is MainLR?

I would check the A&H videos (just in case there are some words of wisdom in there).

If not, raise a support ticket with A&H directly.
