I’m considering rack mounting my cq18. I know it takes 6 RUs, but does that leave any space at the top of a 6ru rack for cabling? What sort of racks are you guys using?
Generally speaking, devices are designed to fill all of the rack space. So a 6u device will not allow for cables to pass above or below it within the same 6u space.
Most people will simply leave another rack space above or below the device to pass any cables. This means you should plan on needing at least 7u of rack space to ensure you have room for the device as well as cable management.
If you want a “tidy” looking installation, you should look at the 1u “brush” panel that will allow you to pass cable through it, and yet provide a visual block so you don’t see into the rack as much.
Fantastic answer! Thanks so much!
You might also want to consider the space required on the mixer’s front to plug in headphones.
I don’t have a rack yet, but considered buying a triple door unit Link
This should provide enough space for cables on all sides and allow installation of a Cq-18, power distribution, signal splitters and IEM.
I was considering these cases from Thomann as well - they just are pretty heavy, but for sure the best form factor. For example, the case you linked to is 26lbs on its own. It would be nice to find one made of molded plastic instead of plywood
Kind of like this one: SKB Rack
Thanks, I didn’t know these cases. The one you linked is even more than 30lbs though - but it got wheels. That’s sure helpful.
