CQ20 Wifi Antenna replacement

Hi all

My CQ-20 got rushed offstage at a venue the other night, and the WiFi antenna snapped. It looks like it’s a simple threaded router antenna, but does anyone know if I need to get a specific replacement? Manual doesn’t seem to have any info. thx

No you just need one that has the same connector. However you may be able to get the exact one from A&H.

I believe that the connector is RP-SMA but am willing to be corrected.

Based on your experience, I have ordered a third party replacement antenna. It should arrive this week so I will update you later.

I got the antenna today, it is an RP-SMA connector. The one I bought is longer than the existing one and is not ideal but it works and gives a stronger signal than the stock antenna.

Did you manage to remove the old one successfully? Just unscrewing it?

Yes it just unscrews, I believe it’s different on the CQ18.

Do you know an e-mail address from a&h where I can order the cq20b replacement antenna?

I saw a breakdown video somewhere on the forum posts which made reference to this. I recall the comment that it was a straight forward job to replace.

Whether that just means finding something that fits the screw thread or opening the device to tap the connections to an antenna I can’t recall but either option ought to work if repairing.

I know nothing about how/if antennas are powered though you’d need your friendly neighbourhood electrician for that one.

Hope this assists

Cheers
David

This is the one I bought as a spare. The crucial thing is RP-SMA Male Connector. You can get some with higher gain (longer range) but they tend to be much longer.

I bought a cheap one with the above mentioned connector from Amazon with 12 dBi gain and a 1,5 m cable & magnetic foot so I can place it higher in crowded venues. Works great!

The oly 12dBi I can find is 2.4GHz only, i yours on 5,8GHz or dual band?

If you’d like to buy one of our own replacement antenna, you can order part AL12258 from any of our distribution partners.

Alternatively, you can procure from a third-party electronics supplier online with the OEM part number ANT-DB1-RAF-RPS.

For compliance reasons, it should be the same antenna type and spec.

Mine is dual band. On Amazon, €9.
