My SQ6 is about two years old and recently while sitting idle I’ve heard a crackling noise from inside the mixer almost like an electrical crackle. It usually last just a few seconds a few minutes after powering up the unit and then it doesn’t do it anymore. Any ideas as to what the issue could be?
We had this issue on our SQ5 a few years ago and eventually the analogue input card had to be replaced, but not sure what caused it. But now we get a random popping noise which doesn’t show in the meters. Still trying to track it down as the latest firmware upgrade hasn’t fixed it although it doesn’t seem to occur as often.
There seem to be two completely different problems:
In the first case, the user can hear noises coming from inside the console, but in your case it sounds as if the noises are only coming from one, some or all of the outputs.
I assume that neither problem can be resolved or reduced by firmware updates.
To rule out a possible self-created error, I would save the current state of the console as a show on a USB stick and then perform a Standard Reset Mix Settings.
If your problem goes away, you can load your show again and then look for the error.
But if the reset console still produces noises, I’m afraid you will unfortunately have to contact A&H’s service again and arrange for a repair.
Always the same on Qu32 - the first 15min it works and than it crackles. Sometimes I thougt it was a Qu-Driver and graphic driver problem, because when I move my mouse rapidly over the gui the crackles comes earlier.
Yes, 2 issues, we had the same electrical crackling noises coming out of the machine, which eventually led to the analogue input card dying. Now we have the popping noises, especially if we tap the console. We have already improved the situation by checking for loose connection in the mixer and checking for dry joints, which has reduced the number of times it occurs, but we will continue to try to find the fault. We have reset the settings a few times but no change.
We don’t know what your console is intended for.
It might be ok if you use it in a home studio, but if you use it at events in front of an audience or something similar, isn’t the risk of a fiasco with a probably defective console too high for you?
