Dante Card in SQ7 randomly started muting

We’ve had a Dante 64x64 card in a SQ7 for years now, recently when we patch it into our greater Dante venue network, it comes up as Locked under Sync Status, however under Mute Status it’s muted.

There would be at least a dozen devices on the Dante network all operating fine, 2 x DM racks, bunch of Shure receivers, some AVIO adapters, a Rio rack which we’re using as the clock master.

If we patch the SQ into a laptop by itself, we get Dante to flow nicely, as soon as we patch it into the greater network, even 1 other device, it mutes.

We’ve tried a new Dante card (the one we have is V1 hardware, we’ve tried V3)

We’ve tried a dumb switch to the Rio Rack back to the SQ and a laptop.

We’ve tried factory reset of all the equipment.

It’s very strange. I’m kind of suspecting it’s the SQ itself at this point, we’re waiting on an SQ rack to arrive to try out.

Really just curious if anyone has seen the same issue.

Cheers

Dan

Check that the SQ is getting its clock from the Dante network - this isn’t a default setting.

Check that the primary and secondary networks are completely separate; a common cause of synced but (Dante) muting is a device being set to switched but plugged into both Primary & Secondary networks, hence creating a very undesirable bridge.

Try setting the SQ (Dante card) as clock leader, rather than the RIO; Certain Yamaha default implementations/configurations can be a bit ‘weird’…

I believe the card will “mute” itself when there are clocking issues, so Wesley’s suggestions are spot on. I am willing to bet this is a clocking issue somewhere along the line.

This also happens if the sample rate does not match (48/96 kHz).

G’day, we’ve tried having the SQ clock set to i/o port, it gets the green tick, we’ve matched the 48kHz throughout the network, I’m unsure if the two settings on the SQ setting affects the Dante side at all, it doesn’t seem to be related.

We’ve just tried the same two cards in an SQ rack from the supplier, and randomly we’ve had exactly the same issues.

The whole network operates fine but the single SQ Dante card remains muted.

Very strange.

If we patch back into a laptop, it works fine.
We’ve tried making one of our DM racks the clock leader and that doesn’t make any difference either.

One thing we haven’t completely ruled out is the possibility of a secondary port being patched into a primary switch somewhere, or visa-versa, so we might try that next.

It’s just very strange that it only affects the SQ, nothing else on the network is affected, DLive, Shure racks, AVIO adapters, couple of DVS instances, the Rio Rack. etc etc.

Dante Controller will warn you about that if it has occurred.
