This thread is more IO everything topic, but since I am Avantis user, I post it here.
So, can you make a possibility, that we could send audio from a PC/Mac laptop straight to S-Link port in stage boxes, DX4816 or console S-Link port? Same as waves native configuration? At the moment I have to have second cat running from stage to FOH, to have dante or waves from stage to FOH.
Usually the backing track DAWs are with drummers. So anyway for drum mics there is a DX box available. If we could have from laptop a 16+8 audio DX protocol to DX box via cat5, that goes via cat5 to mixrack or GX rack, that would be huge space and cable saver. At the moment we have to convert digital audio to analog via soundcard and then back to digital via DX box again, what is kind a nonsense. Or having an extra cat5 for waves or dante network to FOH (with avantis solution).
CAT5E is up to 1gB connection , so higher switches wont help at all. And yeah, the rental companies provide CAT5E cables most of the time.
Cost effective would be an asio driver for S-Link (150 euros for that would be fine to pay). That´s why I put this thread under future suggestions.
All the sound guys are using laptops, we have waves, dante and USB ports for that in consoles. But when the laptop is going to be on the stage, it gets complicated.
We can convert with an audio card signals from laptop to analog and then again to digital with DX box. Pricetag - DX + audio card + cables
We can use extra cat5 cable from stage to FOH. Distance gets over 100m too often. Not sure, that this will work with waves or dante. Maybe switches in the middle of the line for boost?
Or one of the ideas I had, was to buy SQ rack for monitor mix purposes, so I could get Avantis in FOH cleaner and have on stage at least USB port in a SQ-rack, where to send backtrack audio from a pc without DA-AD conversion. SQ rack has only one extra card slot, what is going to be for Avantis connection. Integrated S-link will be for DX boxes (sub-snakes on stage)
So if you follow the idea it self - it would be easy to plug a laptop to any DX daisychain connection port, to get audio to console, rather than any costly solution above.
