This includes both users and Allen and Heath peoples.
I need some help improving my workflow with Director. I don’t currently have a surface so I’m using director and mixing station but I work with a few different bands all with different needs. I’m able to save the dLive show for each band which works great but I’m finding that the surface layout gets saved on each laptop or pc I set it up on. I’ve learned that I can move the TLDv2.02 folder in the AllenHeath user directory or rename it but that’s kind of cumbersome. Is there a way that I can ensure that the layout of Director gets saved with the show information so when I open that show file on a new PC the surface layout comes with it? I definitely prefer each Show to have it’s own layout with slight differences. I also wish there was a way to save shows directly to the mixrack.
Yeah, that’s a bit strange imho. Also if you save a show, after the surface has already been disconnected, it doesn’t save the surface layout. So it seems the surface layout is kind of saved in the surface, or is only saved when the surface is connected. In your case, the laptop is the surface.
You can store the strip layout in a library, and recall it then.
I’ve also found that Show files are tied to the Surface. If you are using the Director software, the system still considers that a Surface and each computer will have their own Show files. It can certainly make for cumbersome management of Show files.
We are also running a “surfaceless” system and have Director running on a computer at FOH and another instance on a Windows 2in1 that I use in the audience area (our FOH position isn’t in the PA coverage area, so I don’t like mixing from it). I have just gotten in the habit of saving the Show file after each event on BOTH computers. This covers me regardless of which device I might want to load a Show file with in the future.
The surface layout is definitely saved in the surface but its not saved in a way that lets me load different layouts which drives me nuts. I know about saving strip layouts to the library but that’s only half the puzzle. I’m going to suggest a feature that allows you to store the surface layout to the show file so when you load a show file, you have the option of restoring the surface if you are on the same surface config.
This drives me nuts. I’m often walking in to a different rack and surface. I regularly work with 3 acts with totally different inputs, outputs and surface setup.
I would love to be able to recall my “show” from a USB stick and it recalls my rack and surface setup. If I’m going from a large surface to a smaller one, just drop off the additional channels/buttons, most of what I need will be there and I’ll only need to make a few changes.
I’d love a surface button scene, where I can quickly recall my most used button settings.
Like not being able to retain pre settings when re-patching, not having the surface last used as a start point costs me time. Annoying “feature” of a good system.
Just save a preset the in strip assign library, or save a scene with the layout. In my standard showfiles I have layouts for the surfaces I use most often. (S7000, C3500, C1500) Used to do it with scenes, and still have the scenes in case I want to recall a specific soft button setup.
The only way to do this automatically would be if saving the show file saved a seperate layout for each type of surface it has been connected to in the background. Not sure I would want the showfile to potentially recall an ancient layout and not have any layouts manually saved.
