Don't dumb down the CQ

There are many circumstances where a few of the requested features on the CQ series would make sense; de-esser, ducker, etc. Where it doesn’t make sense to bring my SQ; channel count, space, complication. High quality shows that don’t require the power of the larger mixers. I don’t think these basic additions will keep someone from considering the more advanced mixers, when they need them. Look at BlackMagicDesign; they give you an upgrade path from Hobbyist to Cinematographer. Get them into the ecosystem and they will tend to stay in it when it’s time to grow.

This is roughly what a few of us have been saying. The problem is that what some think of as essential, others think are of little use. To me De-easers and duckers are not as useful as Sub groups and a few other features. The other issue is that some things are physically not possible owing to hardware limitations, I believe a matrix is one of them.

Like other people, I am happy when new firmware adds features and I am looking forward to V1.3 but it ain’t broke and there is nothing I need for my band or the Open Mic night that I run.

The CQ is so close to being the perfect mixer for grab and go. Frustrating. I’ve aready relgated mine to stuff that I would have done with my Zed10. I donated that one to church. Back to my Ui-24 for band gigs. Disappointing as the CQ has so muxh going for it.

I think the feature set is good. I use the CQ as a front for Fender Studio Pro on a very fast laptop, and all 18 channels live. A perfect fit. Tools on the CQ if needed, heavy lifting and automation on the DAW.
