Not sure where to post this, it’s a bit of a general suggestion.
I have an idea for a plugin - a dual-band gate. Within a channel, a gate would have an adjustable crossover point, and you could adjust the two bands with separate parameters.
Primarily, this would be used for drums, but I’m sure creative people could find other uses.
I’ve done this “manually” many many times in studio mixing situations - copy a tom track twice, setup a hi-pass and low-pass filter set to the same frequency, and adjust the high frequency portion to gate very quickly to get the “snap” and the low frequency portion to release slower to get the tom resonance. It also helps keep cymbals at bay and works on all parts of a drum kit.
I’ve done this manually in live situations as well, creating a “rack hi” and “rack lo” track (for example) to accomplish the same thing. It’s overkill I know.
