Ducking on reverb and delay

Hello.

I would love to be able to add some ducking on reverbs and on delays.

Have all a nice day.

I’d like to strongly support this request and also expand on why ducking — particularly on reverb and delay — is so important in real-world use.

First of all, CQ currently lacks a side-chain / ducking mechanism in its architecture, which is a fundamental limitation for many modern mixing workflows. Even a simple and flexible implementation of side-chain would open up a wide range of practical applications.

One of the most valuable of these is ducking on time-based effects such as reverb and delay.

In practice, this allows the dry signal (for example, a vocal) to remain clear and intelligible, while the reverb or delay naturally “blooms” in the gaps between phrases. The result is a mix that feels both clean and spacious, without the need for constant manual adjustment or compromise.

This is especially important in:

  • live performance (where clarity is critical),

  • small venues with challenging acoustics,

  • and vocal-focused mixes where intelligibility must be preserved.

Without ducking, engineers often have to choose between:

  • too much effect (loss of clarity), or

  • too little effect (loss of depth and atmosphere).

Ducking solves this elegantly and musically.

This is not a niche or experimental feature — it’s a standard technique in both live and studio environments, widely available in DAWs and increasingly expected in modern digital mixers.

Adding side-chain capability, and enabling it specifically for FX like reverb and delay, would significantly enhance CQ’s flexibility while staying true to its fast and intuitive workflow.

I believe this would be a meaningful and practical improvement for a large portion of CQ users.

Best regards,
Thurisaz
