Anyone use their cable? I think 100m is about £230 or so
I need to get another cable for sure, but really after getting all that I bought this week have no more money left - have to still buy my flight case too LOL!
We have just done a GLD installation using fairly standard CAT6 shielded. I think it cost about GBP20 for 30m. Works a treat but then it is not moving on a weekly basis so YMMV.
Just a thought that you don’t necessarily need to get the expensive stuff…
That’s been a thought too - cause for example - lord forbid that anything would happen to our LS932 in church… we do have installed cat5 running to the front, so it would be a chance for my GLD to be stepped in place if anything ever happened.
Probably not the best quality of callee I am sure, and definitely not likely to be anywhere near as old as the klutz stuff - but it might also be worth trying s a premise budget solution. Goodness - some of the cat5 cable kits I have seen are over a grand LOL.
For me - that amount of money is beyond my grasp for a while so will have to settle for the less expensive options for a while.
I’m unsure if A&H says anywhere that the cables need to be to shielded, or is it just a recommendation?
I ask this cause I recall seeing somewhere that Aviom requires unshielded Cat5e, so I just want to make sure I purchase the right stuff the first time.

We got a 75ft CAT6a shielded cable from Monoprice.com, cut off the boots, and attached Neutrik ethercon connectors for a total of under $30USD. Very high quality cable and good value.
VDC’s solid cored & shielded Etherflex is pretty good but the additional strengthening plastic centre core does occasionally throw problems with termination as well as the extra expense of the shielded cat5 plugs.
We use the Kelsey Duracat as well which is much much cheaper (about £1 metre IIRC) and seems to have performed pretty well considering its much less well built and has a thinner OD. Good value though.
Either way stuck on a nice Schill (Neutrik) drum it makes for an easy life.
I do know a GLD owner that seems quite happy to carry his box of cheap unshielded Cat5 around and stick new plugs on every other show. Cheap but not recommended…
.
Just remember kids no matter how good your mixing is you can’t polish a turd…
Update on the Thomann snake - it’s not reliable, did a show tonight where the snake was suffering with a high number of audio clicks and drop outs. QoS errors all over the place. Couldn’t do a show with it, no question. Had to resolve the issue by moving the console next to the stageboxes and using the A&H provided cables. It may work in optimum conditions but I would not recommend using it as your only choice. Sorry but this isn’t the low cost ethernet cable you are looking for I’m afraid…
