I have a gig that required quick access to sends on fader for 20+ mixes on an Avantis Solo. I have between 40 and 60 inputs, depending on the size of the show, 20 to 30 mixes to work through. There is no chance of getting a bigger or more sensible console for the gig.
My question is, can I use some kind of external control to trigger sends on fader on the surface. In a perfect world, a grid of buttons labelled with each mix. The soft keys are maxed out, I have the gig at a point where it just about works, but it would be so much easier if my “mix” buttons were all available without effecting my layers.
I’ve looked into the Custom Control App, this doesn’t seem to work for SoF.
I’ve done a bit of midi research, but that seems to be aimed at using the console with a DAW.
I’ve looked into stream deck. The features for Avantis do not include SoF.
Also, if it’s not clear I want the function to work just like the mix button does on the surface. So, my PAFL would follow with it unless I choose to interrupt that.
To potentially solve your problem, I would actually recommend Mixing Station.
Here, you could create your own layout where you simply arrange your 20 or more labeled keys and perhaps the name of the mix above them.
But!: I don’t know if that works with Avantis.
You’d have to find out more about that!
With my SQ, I can select my mixes on the console and Mixing Station responds.
But if I select mixes on Mixing Station, the mixes unfortunately don’t become active on the console.
But that’s not Mixing Station’s fault!
But maybe it’s different with Avantis.
If no one here in the forum can answer this question, just ask David Schumann (here as davidgiga1993) from Mixing Station.
It would be very nice if you could post here whether this works with Avantis.
Is it possible to create scenes that set the Avantis with the correct monitor “Mix” selected and recall safe everything else? I never had the need to create that type of scene when I was using the Avantis, so I am not completely sure.
If you can, it would be trivial to set up a Streamdeck running Companion and the A&H Avantis connection to recall those scenes. You could create a button, label it appropriately, have set the action to recall the desired “mix scene”. Have another button/scene available to bring the console back to mising the Main LR Mix as well.
Again, I am not sure if you can get that granular with the scene system. Hopefully you can.
Alternatively, if you are using a bunch of softkeys currently to load different scenes, you could offload that functionality to the Streamdeck which would free up softkeys on the console to select specific monitor “mixes”.
This is definitely a situation where a full size Avantis would be helpful because it would be trivial to have all of your inputs on one fader bank and all of your monitor mixes on the other fader bank which would make it really easy to select monitor mixes and access the inputs to adjust the send levels all at the same time.
Perhaps as a supplement, something quickly and imprecisely improvised to give an idea of what something like this might look like.
