FBA controls help

Hi there

I’m not sure if I’m being completely inept, but I can’t figure out how to set and control the FBA filters.

As an example, during a live gig I can hear a hum / resonance that hasn’t yet caused a problem, and I can see the frequency on the RTA (on the mixer and/or on a spectrum analyser on my phone). The band has bagpipes and hurdy gurdy so I can’t turn on “live” mode, because FBA will just cut the drones. So how do I turn on one of the 16 FBA filters manually and set the frequency?

Thanks for any help in advance

FBA is good for ringing out the room and big peaks during performance it’ll catch but otherwise yes, runs risk of scooping out things you don’t want it to. I don’t believe you can manually add the filters.

But if you want to do that, switch over to GEQ instead, which also has RTA, you can be very manual with that!

You can be more precise using the parametric EQ on the output.

You could try ringing out the system with the auto FBA, but without the bagpipes, then turn off the auto to keep the cuts the FBA made. Anything that pops up after that, use thePEQ.

The PEQ is only 4-band. With a very live/reflective room, sometimes more than 4 bands are needed to effectively manage feedback.

The CQ’s FBA lets you adjust the width and depth of each filter but for some reason, you can’t adjust the frequency. I’m not sure if that’s an oversight that can be fixed with a firmware update or a limitation of the hardware that can’t be fixed. But if they just added the ability to adjust the frequency of the filters, that would solve a lot of problems and provide a lot more control.

try leaving the live FBA turned on, but with a fast recovery time. you’ll see the frequency. if it squeals a couple of times then slow the recovery speed a touch.. which may scoop out some mids in that wedge, but buys you time to cut something from the channel.. or to go back in a break and ring out that mic / wedge again using fixed FBA. the mixer can help you do it quickly.. but just please dont use slow live recovery.

I have made a feature request here: Control frequency in FBA - manual placement of filters

Thank you for suggestions to use GEQ
