Adding main L/R mix button to SQ4u app under the assign section. I’m coming across more and more bands that want the main LR mix in their monitor feed, or they want the main LR with a touch of themselves louder. At the moment I’m using a group to achieve this, but it would be much easier if they could just have the option to select main mix under the assign section on their apps, then they could slide this up, hear the main mix then add a bit of themselves at a higher volume if they desire.. so much easier than them trying to create a mix themselves. This also helps musicians who are playing and doing their own sound as they can easily reference the FOH mix… please can you add it, there’s definitely demand for it!
Probably, with your suggestion, you were only thinking of a small change in the SQ4U app.
But the two mixes, “Main LR” and “Aux,” operate practically in parallel in the console and there’s no connection between them (see also the link below).
Therefore, unfortunately, you can’t mix an “LR” to an “Aux” either.
But even if such a connection could be created in a future firmware, the processing times of the two mixes would add up, and the console would most likely experience increased latency.
Thank you for your response, that’s interesting. I’m guessing it’s the same with a matrix? If not could that work? I have found a couple of work arounds by using groups but I thought it would be much cleaner with a button
Well, indeed you could use matrices to create such special monitoring setups, with up to 3 stereo or up to 6 mono monitoring channels.
However, you would also need to use up to six aux/group mixes to implement the mix of the input channels to the matrix, since, as you can also see in the pictures, you cannot mix input channels directly to a matrix.
(And currently, however, SQ4U is not capable of controlling matrices.)
Thanks, looks like the easiest thing to do is carry on doing what I’m doing which is to send everything to a group, but leave the group fader down so that particular group doesn’t go through to the main mix. Then this is available in the SQ for you app. Property the complete wrong way to do it, but a solution nonetheless!
In this version, however, you wouldn’t be able to use other groups for the Main LR, or you’d have to accept that these groups wouldn’t be able to be sent to your “Main Group.”
Alternatively you could think about, consider sending all channels (and groups) that represent the “Main LR” to each monitor mix Post-fader unity (0 dB) – and only the own channel(s) Pre-fader.
In SQ4U, you could then set up one control fader with all of these channels, groups, and FX following the “Main LR,” and only the own channel(s) “Me” separately.
If I don’t think wrong, this could be pretty much what you’re looking for.
Yes, I did try that option but I thought the group was a bit less fiddly! But yes, it does limit the use of groups.
The only other work around I have found is to set up a matrix out (pre-fader) then feed that via an XLR into a local input, that way it appears on the app as any other input channel, and frees up all the groups. Just seems strange there’s not an easy way to do this as I get asked for it so much.
You could just as easily your Main Out send directly to one or two inputs, but in both cases, you’d get even greater latency, and mixing with your own “Me” would probably become impossible.
