A producer has requested a foot switch to operate his stage address/talk back mic to the floor. Simple TS foot switch, TS to TS cable to the foot switch 1/4" on the back of the SQ.
Three settings on the foot switch page other than unassigned. Latching, Momentary, and Soft Latch. I set the switch to Momentary and it acts exactly like the Soft Latch setting. Step and hold, momentary. Step and quick release, latched “on”. I never want the mic to EVER be latched “on”. Bug or operator error?
You’ve set it up the right way, but the way the foot switch is working seems a bit strange. When the Momentary setting is selected, the mic should only stay on while the switch is pressed and should turn off as soon as it’s released. Since you never want the mic to stay latched on, this isn’t the expected behavior.
It would be a good idea to check both the foot switch and the settings on the SQ again to make sure everything matches. Sometimes the way a foot switch is wired, or even a small hardware fault, can cause this kind of issue.
(Side note: If you’re working with equipment like pumps or tanks, a similar issue can happen with a float switch — wiring faults or sensor glitches might cause improper behavior there, too.)
