Forgot WiFi password on CQ20-B

I’m an idiot. I set a password and it must have a typo because I now set it to 5ghz and am trying to connect and getting incorrect password errors on my iPad.

Does anyone know how to resolve to get back into the wifi settings to resolve this issue. I tried connecting the mixer to my wifi router but still not able to get connected via the iPad MixPad app.

I’m pretty frustrated.

Thanks!

There seems to be a tiny “Reset” button between the USB ports and the Wired Network jack. Maybe try holding that in while powering up the unit. Just a guess. No user manual out yet so who knows. And I ordered my 20B today but don’t get it until Friday so I can’t experiment for you…at least until then.

Hi Gopal,

There are three resets on the 20B.
Hold the reset button for 2secs to enter reset menu.
Tap reset button to cycle through available options, shown by the colour of the CM LED.
Red= full factory reset
Blue= WiFi reset
Yellow= Ethernet reset
When the reset you want to perform is selected, hold reset button for 2secs again.
Done!

Hope this helps, the full user guide will be available soon.

Hi,

I tried to change the Wifi password on my CQ20_B. For that, I used the procedure indicated here by Keith (and also in the Manual and the A&H YouTube tutorials. My problem is that the CM Led doesn’t stop flashing blue after step 5 in the manual (“With the ‘CM’ LED showing the colour matching the reset to be performed, press and hold the ‘RESET’ button for 2 seconds to action the reset. To exit the reset menu, do not interact with the ‘RESET’ button for 10 seconds”).

What happens is that the CM Led goes back to yellow when I press Reset for 2 seconds with it flashing blue and then stays solid red. Then after some time it goes back to flashing blue again, for ever.

The only device I can connect is the tablet which was already connected to the CQ when I started the procedure. I used it to change the password when the 1st application of the procedure deleted the initial password. Then, I applied the change. I haven’t exited the CQ MixPad App on that tablet and it seems I’m still connected to the CQ. But I can’t connect my other devices anymore (they tell me the CQ is in Change Settings mode).

I don’t dare turning off the CQ and/or the app.

Where did I go wrong and how can I solve this without a total factory reset? (I don’t want to lose all my Scenes and settings).

Thanks a lot for your help.

Once you’ve reset the WiFi, the blue flashing light indicates that a reset has been performed. You’ll need to reconnect to the mixer and set a new WiFi password before it’ll move on from that state.
Forget the network from your mobile device, reconnect and reopen the app - it should let you connect and then prompt you to set a new password.

These are the default wireless settings for your reference. This is the state your mixer should be in now:

Wi-Fi settings (CQ-18T, CQ-20B)
• Security is set to ‘OPEN’ (no password is required to connect a device).
• Password is blank and must be set.
• Frequency is ‘2.4GHz’.
• Channel is set to ‘AUTO’.
• SSID is ‘Visible’.
• SSID is [CQ18T_XXXX or CQ20B_XXXX] where XXXX are the last 4 digits of the serial number.

In any case, don’t panic - even if it gets into a no-WiFi state, you can connect a laptop via ethernet and use the Windows/Mac apps to get going again.

Wow, thanks so much for being so responsive, Mark! This is very much appreciated.

I just logged out from the mobile Android app (CQ MixPad, latest version and firmware), but when I try to reconnect, I can connect to the Wifi network, but not to the CQ. I get a “Failed to connect. Could not open a connection to the unit” message. Same with my other remote devices (Android phone, Windows laptop).

And the Led is still flashing blue.

I also tried to hook up the CQ to my PC laptop with the MixPad app installed: the Ethernet connection is acknowledged by Windows as a limited network but the CQ does not appear on the Home page.

Led still flashing blue.

What do you suggest?

Best regards,

Thierry

Single tap the reset button - it should flash yellow. This will make the ethernet connection active.
The default settings are

Ethernet settings
• IP Mode is ‘Automatic’
• The unit will be assigned an IP address by a DHCP server (e.g. a connected router), devices on the same network and in the same network range running CQ-MixPad can then connect to the unit.
• If no address is provided, the CQ will automatically assign itself a local address. This allows for a direct connection to a computer using a network cable.

You may need to assign your laptop to DHCP and let it fail/assign itself a local address. (It’ll be in the 169.254.x.x range) You then should be able to see the CQ-20B in the unit list.

If you’ve previously set a static address, it will still be using that one.

Also worth noting that the CQ series can’t have concurrent network types - it’s either using WiFi or ethernet, but not at the same time.

Hopefully you can switch to ethernet now, and get it working again (reconfigure the wifi settings from the ethernet connection)

Have you tried restarting the mixer?

Just did that. Pressed Reset once, Led flashed yellow, hooked up Ethernet cable again, connection worked.

I could reset the password and reconnect my other devices to the CQ via Wifi.

Unfortunately, all those operations resulted in a total Factory reset. I now have a new password, but all my settings and mixing history have been erased. :frowning:

As a consequence, I suggest the following:

1/ All resetting instructions on various patforms (user manual, YT tutorials, forum answers) go through to the end of the procedure, not just to Step 5, which is not informative enough. Just add a paragraph saying: “Once you have completed the 5 Wifi resetting steps, the Led will keep flashing blue. This is normal. Quit your app, try reconnecting to the CQ Wifi network. The Reset operation must have returned the Wifi settings to Open, meaning no password is needed. Once connected to the CQ network, re-launch the MixPad app, go to Config/Network, select WPA2, set up a new Wifi password and tap Apply. You should now be able to connect other devices to the CQ with the new password. If this does not work, tap Reset again once, the CM Led will flash yellow. Connect an Ethernet cable to a laptop with the MixPad app installed and re-launch the app. You should be able to connect to the app again and set a new Wifi password. Caution: If Led turns to solid red, all these operations might result in a Total factory reset erasing all your settings and mixing history. Consequently, you should save your data as a Show on a USB drive BEFORE attempting a Reset.” You may even want to start the procedure explanation with this word of caution.

2/ In case the password has been forgotten (those things do happen, though this was not the case here), please provide a way to retrieve the existing password as an alternative to resetting it altogether, which is risky. I could not find any.

3/ Please highlight all instructions about saving data as Shows clearly in the User Manual, YT tutorials and forum answers. I had to scrutinize the manual to find that info, which appears quite incidental whereas it is a vital one. Had I clearly been made aware of that possibility and procedure beforehand, I would not have lost all my data.

Thanks.
