Ganging vs. linking stereo inputs

Hi,

I’d like to be able to change the width of stereo channels instead of the left/right balance. That is easily done by ganging the inputs instead of stereo-linking them together and panning however I like. But that seems to change the single stereo compressor in two mono ones with just the parameters linked, not the gain reduction, resulting in a stereo image that is unstable.

Is there a way to achieve this without ganging the two channels, panning them and after that sending them to a group for some compression?

@Nathan

Stereo input channels include a stereo width control in the preamp section of the processing screen.
But if you’re talking about width and pan (not balance) then routing through a group might be the best option.

Thanks,
Keith.

Thank you Keith, that’s it! Am I correct in assuming that the width control in the preamp section does affect all mixes?
