GLD80 Dante multitracking

Hi, looking at buying a 2nd hand GLD80 that has the Dante card. I have never used Dante.

I use Logic pro on a Macbook pro to record concerts.

What do i need to make this work? and is it a stable option as i the recordings are very important. I use SQ’s and QU’s with the Macbook and it works very well.

Logic (or any Computer, basically) cant “read” dante “natively”, you’ll need a soundcard on the computer side too. There are software or hardware options, ie the RME Digiface Dante or PCIe Cards.

But for recording, the software option is fine! Audinate (the company behind Dante) offers a virutal soundcard which you can download here:

You’ll also need to purchase a license from them but they aren’t super expensive and i think there is a trial. If you use the same machine each time you can go with the cheapest one.

For patching, you alos want to download Dante Controller (free).

Its the same Recording Solution is used for years and its very stable for me. I also use the same Setup with dLive now and never had Dante issues.

You might want to check out the Courses or Documentations (i highly recommend reading a little bit, i think there are also videos on youtube iirc) if you never worked with it before, there are some things to consider that might be new to people that dont work with networks often do this the first time but a simple setup like desk/card ↔ computer is not complicated!

fuhn, thanks very much. The only reason i think i am not going to buy this very good condition GLD80 is because on the bigger shows i do where i’ll need a separate monitor mixing desk GLD can’t be linked with SQ’s, QU’s and DLive easily. I think getting a SQ and they hiring a 2nd one is a good option with an extra S-link port.
