Global saves for EQ/Channel Library

When you save an EQ to the PEQ library it would be good if it saved to a global library not just the current show’s library. This way it can be recalled on any show. Same goes for saving the entire channel strip to the channel library.

This might be intentional, as it could become quite confusing - at least with these current conventions: Only network settings and user profiles are not stored in a show file.

However, as a possible workaround for now, you can copy the necessary library entries to a USB stick so you can then use them in other shows or even on other devices.

This has been brought up before concerning global libraries. And I agree completely. Confusion can be avoided by choosing meaningful names for your library items.

@Bmc I recommend you search for the other global library posts and give them an upvote - here is my latest one Library Save

This is obviously just my opinion, but I think the way it works now is the most logical way of handling it.

Each show file is designed to be a unique event. As such, things like scenes and libraries are not automatically carried over when you create a show file from scratch. Again, it’s supposed to be a unique event and therefore automatically moving those things over to a new show file when you are creating the show file from scratch would unnecessarily clutter up the new show file. Most of the time you would end up removing those items because they would not be applicable for the current show file.

You don’t have to create a show file from scratch every time however. If the new event is going to be based largely on a previous show, you can simply load a previous show and save it with a new name which creates a “new” show file. Then you can start working/modifying the new show file with whatever changes you need for the new show. “Creating” a show file this way will bring over all the libraries and scenes from the original show file.

In practical terms this means if you are creating a show file for a band you are working with for the first time, you should create the show file from scratch because none of your saved scenes or libraries from other bands will be applicable for the new band. On the other hand, if you are simply doing a new show for a band that you have already worked with, then start by loading the file from the last show you did with that band and save it as a “new” show file. Now work off that new show file and all of your previous work (which is relevant to carry over to the new show) will be available.

On those occasions where you want to start from scratch with a new show file, but bring select scenes or libraries over from a previous show, there are methods to do that as SQUser mentioned.

I agree that it would be more convenient if we could move items from one show file to another using nothing but the internal memory (instead of requiring a USB drive). But I wouldn’t want a new show file to be prefilled with scenes and libraries from previous shows be default.

@sic0048 Brian makes some very excellent points. And I may have read into BMC’s post something that wasn’t there which is the ability to save an entire channel to a library. My mistake.
