Hi,
The ability to route a mono or stereo groups into another mono or stereo group would be very nice.
For example : kick group ( mono ), Snare group ( mono ), Tom group ( Stereo ), routed into DRUMS group ( stereo )
Is this something that is on the roadmap for the SQ series ?
sorry if this has been asked before
That would require quite a change to the core latency timing. Currently the time alignment is set to a maximum when signal flow is input>group>aux>mainLR>matrix, if any element of that group is missing the mixer inserts the correct number of clock cycles delay internally to ensure no matter where output the signal (input direct outs excluded obviously) it will be phase coherent. I.E the signal always takes 0.7ms analogue to analogue!
It is asked before, altough I think there where not enough up-votes.
That being said, if this is possible with the chip (which I believe is), this should be a no-brainer for A&H to implement in the SQ. Even cheaper desks from other brands can do this.
Important to note is that there is no latency compensation anymore when routing group to group (especially when some channels go through a group and some not), so be phase issues can be present.
However, it must be corrected that “aux>mainLR” is not possible, but both can only be used in parallel. )
And to @patrick-puh:
Please also take a look at the routing diagram.
Perhaps a workaround for your situation could be, instead of a second group in series, using an aux to a matrix.
My mistake! I meant to put aux and mainLR in as alternatives, but couldn’t quite think how to do it. The principle is correct, that you cannot have similar sections in tandem, otherwise how do you account for extra latency.
Group to group processing was added to the DLive system recently. Therefore it is clearly possible. A&H doesn’t attempt to adjust the overall latency compensation however for group to group processing. Users are responsible to determine when the added latency is going to cause phasing issues and manually compensate for it.
That being said, I would expect this feature to “work its way” down to the Avantis before it would even be considered for the SQ. Group to group processing was NOT included in the recent Avantis 2.0 firmware release. I don’t know if it’s because it simply wasn’t ready in time, or if A&H has no intention of bring it to the Avantis.
I think it is clear that if group to group processing doesn’t make it to the Avantis, it’s not going to make it to the SQ.
