Another theatre feature. When running showfiles with complex scene-safes and recal filters, the ability to hard mute an input if a mic dies on stage would be great. Like a shift mute that ignores all scene data. Simply knowing that if you find a dead mic and in 3 scenes time, the mic might come back on is a bit annoying for an operator.
Do you mean that Safe is not enough on that particular channel? Of course, after muting and pulling down the fader.
My workflow for theatre involves recalling fader and mute imformation for stage microphones. I would love the ability to Hard mute an input that trumps recalled scene data if that makes sense
Perhaps, “Channel Disable” or “Input Disable” would be a more appropriate term and protocol and would be global/across all scenes?
Very well could be, Digico use the term Hard Mute, not to compare and be like other console brands.
I’m sorry, but I don’t understand. If there is a specific channel whose input is dead, you simply turn on Safe, mute the channel, and pull down the fader. Because of Safe, Scene will not overwrite the data of that channel, so it won’t unmute it, since the input of that channel is “dead” and shouldn’t be playing.
Of course, I may not understand exactly what the goal is, but this is how I would solve such a situation on the console.
If there is time between scenes, you could try the Update function, I don’t know off the top of my head whether it is possible to disable a channel’s input, or how complicated it is, I just know that Safe is the fastest.
A good example might be a mic going bad during a theatre show that’s being mixed line-by-line. On Digico it’s a very simple process to opt+mute to hard mute a channel. It will continue to track through changes and be ready at any point to be un-hard-muted at which time it’ll be in exactly the FX/DCA/config that you’re expecting it to be. Using safe on the channel will have other consequences if you’ve moved on cues/scenes while the channel is safe.
Feels like A&H have taken a step in this direction with their reset+mute to pull a channel out of mute status!
