Hey
I’ll try to be as specific as possible.
Using a CQ18T with USB-B connection.
I’m in a band that wants to rehearse with click and a bass track. Only me, the drummer, hearing the click and the bass track goes out through the speakers in the room.
But since the speakers are connected to the Main LR output in the mixer, apparently everything gets out through them.
In Cubase the Main LR is routed through channels 19/20 while mine are routed through 17/18. On the CQ18T 19/20 in Main LR and 17/18 is Out 3/4, to which my Headphone A and IEM are plugged in.
Also, since my drums are miked up i want to hear them in my mix too, without them blasting through the speakers and causing feedback with the overheads.
Can i do this with Out 3/4 as Post Fader send levels and Post EQ Output Source?
I’ve tried playing around with the sends on the mixer aswell, and nothing seems to do the trick.
Is there a way to both send the clicktrack and direct monitored drums to me only, and the bass track to the speakers seperately?
Using Outs 3/4 instead of 1/2 was just me fiddling around with it btw.
With regards
JM
If you want to set up a monitor mix that is independant of the FOH/Main speakers, you generally want to set that up as an aux as “Pre Fader”. By setting it to “Post Fader”, any changes made to the individual channels of the main mix will also be changed in the monitor. You don’t want the volume of the different channels changing in your monitor mix unless YOU change them. Pre fader ensures changes to the Main LR levels don’t affect your monitor.
As far as having sources available in your monitor, but NOT in the Main LR mix, you need to have those sources turned all the way down in the Main LR mix. Again, using pre fader aux sends will ensure these sources aren’t also removed from your monitor mix.
I suggest that you download the CQ User Guide from the A&H site and look at pages 40-43. Those pages specifically talk about how to send a channel out (or not out) to the Main LR Mix as well as to the 6 aux channels.
FYI - You can also use the CQ4You mobile app to have access and control the volume of your monitor sends. This is an easy way to adjust your monitor mix without having to go over to the mixer itself.
Hopefully this helps.
That does sound like it will solve it.
But i like the sound i’ve made for my drums in my IEM’s, will pre-fading remove all the EQ and comp settings i’ve done? Or does the Post-EQ output source do something?
Per the User Guide…
Sends to Outputs 1-6 are sourced Post-PEQ (Pre-Comp) from input channels. This means that the full dynamic range is heard by performers in monitors, and that the compressor on each input affects only the Main LR.
Nice, I can live without comp.
I’ll try the pre-fader tomorrow, but thanks for answering
