How to get Mix 3 on Qu24 to mimic 9/10 Mix?

Hello again, We have an A&H Qu-24 console. After taking over A/V tech job at a church, I realized the Hearing Assistance Loop Mix #3 is never actively mixed during services so I’m sure it is going to be less than a realistic representation of the service audio mix. They had all channels in this mix at the same levels all the time … disaster. I assume no one was taking advantage of it since no one complained. But I want to correct this situation since the church is going to actively tell members it is available and that they can use their hearing aids to access the audio. So, I would like to have the Hearing Loop Mix 3 to be the same as the Live Broadcast mix 9/10 mix . Is it possible to have Hearing mix 3 exactly the same as 9/10 mix without having to adjust the mix using the Mix3 controls? Because the Live 9/10 mix is the streaming broadcast audio mix, it would be perfect for the Hearing Assistance Loop. Any changes to the LIVE 9/10 mix would also automatically be seen in the HAL mix. Is this possible?

Is the mix post fader? If it is post fader it follows the level changes in the main mix.

Or you can use matrixes instead…

Unfortunately you’ve lost me but thanks for responding. Sorry I’m a novice on this console.

As Steffen mentioned Mix 3 set to post fade, or assign mix 9/10 to a matrix out to feed the hearing assist, another option would be to assign mix 9/10 to the ALT OUT.

Going through those set up steps here would be a lot of typing! Look those up in the manual and or maybe bring someone in to help set that up and do some hands one mixer training.

Where are you located? Maybe someone here is in your area.

I would like to add a bit to the answers already provided.

To give you a direct answer: No, that is not possible.
Even if you were to set Mix 3 to “Post Fader,” it would still not be able to automatically follow your Mix 9/10.
These mixes operate essentially in parallel.

However, if Mix 3 was already set to “Post Fader” and would follow the Main house mix, it might not be entirely useless for this purpose and could well have been used during the performance.

You could ask the audience.
Furthermore, you could (or better should) check the hearing loop during the show.

And even without any technical knowledge of the mixer, you can easily determine whether it is set to “Post Fader” by monitoring the feed for the hearing loop while pulling the fader of a test microphone complete down in your Main mix.
If the sound also disappears from the hearing loop feed, then Mix 3 is indeed set to “Post Fader.”

The real question is: is anyone actually adjusting Mix 9/10 during the show?
If so, using that mix for the hearing loop would certainly be the better choice - in which case the previous recommendations to use a matrix or ALT OUT would be the correct approach.

To answer: yes of course someone is listening to the broadcast and someone is actively mixing via headphones (me). We have another tech using an iPad mixing the FOH inside the sanctuary.

And regarding all of the Mix 3 faders being set to “0” db that was part of the instructions by A&H tech support. Made sense to me.

Thanking everyone for your help. Although the consensus is “not doable” I am still hoping the tech from A&H will be able to sort this out. I’m a little surprised that after jumping into the digital mixing world that this seems to be impossible on the Qu24. Hope not!

Of course, I’m not familiar with your specific sound reinforcement setup, but it might be quite straightforward.
Given that the broadcast is likely your higher priority, you could think about swapping the roles of the Main Mix and the 9/10 Mix.
You would sit at the console and manage the Main Mix, which feeds only the broadcast.
This ensures that the Mix 3 for the hearing loop (Post Fader) is correctly derived from the Main Mix (the broadcast), while still allowing for independent adjustments if necessary.
Meanwhile, the person using the iPad could simply use Mix 9/10 (Pre Fader + Post All for the complete processing) for the FOH.

Well I have to hand it to ya, that’s a real novel idea… and it would probably blow the other techs minds. Unless A&H tech support cannot come up with a solution, I’ll consider this scenario. I’ll mess around with it on my home based Qu 24 to see how it might work for us.

Thanks for the idea!

Gary
