HUI/3rd party control

Hi,

I was wondering if there were plans to add HUI/3rd party control like in your other mixers?

I know it’s nice to actually grab a fader sometimes :slight_smile:

+1

@Robert

Do you mean MIDI control of the mixer?
Or are you suggesting MIDI channel strips?
There is no HUI control of our mixers, but you can use MIDI channel strips on other ranges to make use of their motorised faders and control DAW faders via the A&H MIDI Control app.

Thanks,
Keith.

I meant, is there some way to use my HUI control interface to set fader levels (and possibly more) on the mixer?

The control app seems to indicate that this is possible for other mixers, but your comment indicates it isn’t.

I’ve just purchased a CQ-20, and it would be nice to just pull a fader to change levels since it doesn’t have a touchscreen to do it. Yes, I can do it in the app, but…

@KeithJA&H

So, does the midi control app work for the CQ series?

I think the question is about implementing midi in/out via USB for the CQ series.

@Robert,

No, A&H MIDI Control app works with the MIDI protocol of each mixer range that it supports.
As the CQ does not (currently) have MIDI capability, there is nothing for the app to work with.

It’s possible to use standard MIDI CC messages to control other ranges with the app, you could also translate messages using software or a BomeBox and control the mixer using its MIDI protocol.
(e.g. https://www.allen-heath.com/media/SQ-MIDI-Protocol-Issue5.pdf )

Another option for control using MIDI hardware is via the 3rd party Mixing Station app.

Thanks,
Keith.

@keith,

Ah, I had thought perhaps the CQ app used MIDI under the covers. But it sounds like it uses it’s own protocol. I’m guessing that’s undocumented/proprietary?

I’m not sure how MIDI translation software will help, since, as you said, the CQ series doesn’t have MIDI.

Hello KeithJ.
You said CQ does not (currently) have MIDI capability
Is it a scheduled feature for soon or later ?
Can you officially say it ?
When I hook my CQ12T to any PC and software that uses midi, I have a CQ12T midi device that appears.
Looks like it is just blocked IN and OUT up to now.
Is this something you are allowed to talk about ?

Many thanks for all your input and support.

@willmodelisme

MIDI control of CQ is something we’ve had a few requests for, so is on the list for consideration.
If it’s something that you need/want, please do shout about it! (or, you know… mention politely).

It is quite a bit of development and test work adding all the MIDI control to the unit and the app, so it will depend on demand whether it is implemented at what kind of priority it gets.

Thanks,
Keith.

Tks, I appreciate the answer.
I think that it would be a very valuable feature, for my CQ12T but also for the others.
The lack physical control could be compensate in a very easy way with midi.
I build home made midi controllers and I also have a stream deck plus and possibilities are endless with midi.
It could also be very handy for control via software, scenes changes, mute, FX mod etc.

+1 for optional, external faders. You could even release your own external faderboard with lets say 8 faders.

Hey!

+1 for MIDI Control as well, I’m currently researching digital mixers for purchase, and the Qu Range is overkill for my needs but I love the MIDI control for my live event workflow using bitfocus Companion.

If the CQ range had the same MIDI control it would be a purchase in a heart beat!

MIDI control, please!

+1 midi control please!

Only thing preventing me from purchasing the cq-18t is midi control!!! We have our mixer inside our performance room but would like to control it from within the control room without the app! We currently use a streamdeck and a few other devices, such a shame theres no midi or programmable remote control. No automatic way to copy off recordings through REST API/FTP or anything? An HTTP Restful API for the CQ would also be AMAZING, allowing developers to build custom apps around this!!

Either way, it appears Allen & Heath haven’t realised by marketing this as a mixer for live bands, that this is actually the worlds best podcast mixer! Have a look at the Rodecaster Pro ii or the Mackie DLZ Creator, these are both the same price with half the functionality and this blows the socks off of both of them, literally for the same price (maybe it needs an idiot mode with a simpler ui controls)! but since my rodecaster pro ii has midi control, I cannot give it up yet! Come on Allen & Heath, where is the midi control??? The moment I see this update, you’ve got my money!!

No-brainer purchase of the CQ-18 if it had MIDI compatibility through the app (remotely controllable) AND a simple matrix solution with basic processing for sub-out or FF.

Since my original post, Mixing Station has added support for the CQ.

$10 for Mixing Station (desktop, $6 app) seems like a no-brainer if you want all this.

Native MIDI would be nice, but I can live with giving an independent developer $10 for his efforts.

+1 for midi control

I agree with phillyone, a hurdle keeping me from purchasing the cq-18t is midi control as well. Speaking to other technicians in my area, they have all agreed as well. On an edge-case (but useful for us) it would be great to be able to connect it to something similar to a Behringer X-Touch which has faders (some, even motorized). We also use Streamdecks for our events, which would be fantastic for programmable remote control.
