I’ve inherited the sound role in my local church and I have some novice questions.
I want to run Harrison Live Trax on PC as a DAW,using Dante Virtual Sound Card software as the middleman.
I have these two programmes installed on the PC.
Should I be able to connect over ethernet to the ilive surface or rack and make this setup work? Or have i missed anything else that may be needed?
Has anyone else done this and have any tips?
According to A&H, “I should be able to integrate Live Trax for audio streaming only using a third party protocol like Dante, and it will work just like any other DAW, but without MIDI features”
*I already use iLive Editor on the same pc so I know that it’s speaking to the surface.
*There is no physical dante card installed in the system port B.
Ah OK thanks for confirming. I had imagined that the VSC exists to replace a physical card but I probably need to read up a bit more on the topic. They’re pretty expensive from what I can see so probably not an option right now.
Can I ask, can you suggest any software based method of recording all ilive inputs together or as individual tracks and saving/exporting? That was my main interest in the Live Trax, along with the virtual sound check. Thanks
Without the physical Dante card installed in the iLive system, (or any other audio out medium like Waves) there is no option I’m aware of for recording/playback for VSC, or other DAW use. There are occasionally some used Dante cards that pop up for sale. There are some Facebook groups that have items listed occasionally as well as marketplace and ebay. Being the older system iLive can only use the 96Khz version (64x64) Dante. I use Reaper with our system, we record for archiving and training purposes.
Thanks Steffen, however I didn’t/don’t have the ‘edit post’ pencil available for the 1st comment, only the 2nd one where I corrected myself.
Is it due to post count?
Off topic here, Steffen I looked back and noticed since the conversion to the new forum format, my 1st 6 posts, including a new topic, don’t offer/show me any edit option. My 7th post and later now offer me the edit option. I should be good now going forward.
So I just did get the Dante card for my iDR mix rack, and spent three hours trying to connect and get it setup. The instructions are obviously pretty old including the videos. Does anyone have any tips with the newer Dante software? I keep getting a 169.xxx.xxx connection error, and the instructions show a menu that is not the same as it is today. I have an unmanaged switch with a router, and just want to use it for virtual sound checks and recording. Thanks to anyone in advance with any knowledge to share.
If you are getting an IP address of 169.254.x.x that is because the device is set up to receive an IP address from a DHCP service, but it is not communicating with the DHCP service or getting an IP address.
If the Dante network is just a couple of devices that won’t change week to week, I would highly recommend that you assign static IP addresses to each Dante interface and not even bother with a router/DHCP service. Just make sure you use a different subnet than your regular network. So if your regular network is 192.168.1.x (with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0) , then use 192.168.100.x or something like that.
If there are enough network ports on the Console’s Dante card, you don’t even need to use a network switch. Just directly connect the devices to the Dante card. If you do need to use a switch, a simple “dumb”/unmanaged (layer 2) switch is all that you need for a simple Dante network.
That all makes sense, and I purchased this card used from a church. It has to be an IP address conflict, and I just don’t know how to change it through Dante controller.
I’ve definitely changed the IP address of my Dante cards, but because I generally only do it once, it’s been so long that I can’t remember the steps. But like you, I’m pretty sure that it is something you change via the Dante Controller software.
I would connect your computer running Dante Controller directly to the console’s Dante card. Set your computer’s ethernet connection to use DHCP. This will fail in the same way the console’s Dante card is failing and your computer should be issued an address in the 169.254.x.x subnet. Now that both devices have an IP address on the same subnet, Dante Controller should be able to communicate with the Dante card and you should be able to adjust settings like the card’s network settings.
Alternatively, you could connect the Dante card and computer to the same router running a DHCP service. Both devices should be issued a valid DHCP ip address and again, Dante Controller should be able to communicate with the Dante card. The only possible advantage doing it this way is that you can easily log into the router and find the IP address that the Dante Card was assigned should you need that for some reason. But I think you normally use Dante Controller for all of your configuration needs, so there is probably no reason to need the card’s IP address.
Thank you again, Brian. I was able to get it cleared out plugging directly into the Dante card and found where I could set up the IP address and clear the old information. Everything works perfectly I really appreciate it.
