Independent pan and gain control for linked stereo channels

Everyone running live shows knows that in most normal cases we run the stage in mono or at least with quite narrow stereo.

The issue is that when pairing two channels to create a stereo pair, they are automatically hard panned left ands right, which make the option almost useless for things like drum overheads, stereo keys (unless the keys have stereo width control, which many do not), or any other source mic’ed with a stereo pair (like grand piano, choir, etc).

I’d want to see an option to control the stereo width of paired channels, or alternatively decouple the panning while leaving everything else coupled.

Same for the input gain - when mic’ing with a stereo pair we occasionally need to compensate for level differences between the two sources. So having an option to apply a different gain per channel even if the channels are stereo paired will be a huge improvement.

Just a workaround until your desired suggestion is implemented:
If available, use a single Post Comp Post Fader Output for a your (mono) sound system.
(You could then perhaps use your MainLR for something else).
Alternatively, temporarily using a professional line combiner could also be an option.

Thanks, but unfortunately that would’t help. First - I need all 6 aux outs for monitoring (I run 6 separate monitor mixes). Second - I do need stereo, but just not hard panned. I want reverbs, piano and drums to have some stereo spread, but very minimal., and I want to be abkle to control the width myself.

Okay, then I must have misinterpreted your very first sentence with “in most normal cases we run the stage in mono or …” and also a line combiner is of course not a temporary option.

A parameter to adjust the channels inside of a stereo channel is really important, i agree.

I know the Qu-5, not the CQ-line. There you can set a value from 100 (stereo) until 0 (mono). Like this, it’s possible not to hardpatch a stereo channel to L/R.

But there is still no possibility to adjust the level of one single channel. A separate Trim for L / R would be good and should be situated before the stereo width.

Well, I did write mono or narrow stereo. And even if I run mono, I’d like to use the designated L & R outputs and not use an Aux, which I want to use for what Auxes are meant for.

A stereo width parameter on stereo linked channels would have been very useful. My previous mixer (QSC Touchmix 16) had it, but then it did not have a panning option for stereo pairs. It looks like every one of these mixers is giving up one of the parameters, and in many cases both are required.

The solution is of course to not use stereo pairs, and copy paste all the parameters between two individual channels. But given how unfriendly the copy-pasting is on the CQ series, this option isn’t too attractive, to be honest.

I guess you get what you pay for. Can’t complain at this price level, but it’s a shame the CQ doesn’t have both.
