New to this, trying to figure out how to setup our singers with InEar Monitors using the SQ7 and the SQ4U app. How do I assign an aux to a particular singer, and is there permissions we need to setup on the SQ7 for this? Anyone have a tutorial video?
Tell each singer to which AUX you connected their IEM.
In the app they have to select this AUX and enable “Lock Mix” in the “Mix select” menu.
Do I have to use Aux 1-8? We have 1-3 already set for other uses. Also, can we set all the auxs to stereo?
Yes, to the AUX 1-8. Of course, you can change the number of groups and AUXs (if you are not using all of the groups) to increase the number of AUXs available.
AUXs can be stereo or mono (you do not require two AUXs for stereo like some equipment). Of course, this doubles the analogue ouputs required. IEMs will need to be pre-fade to give the performer control, and you need to consider at what tapping point to take off the AUX point on the input strips (checkout the block diagram).
We have setup user logins (with passwords) for each performer and limited what each performer has access to twiddle. Basically, limited access to their own AUX controls and nothing else!

If we use the SQ4U app for each singer, do we still need to assign logins and passwords?
Am i correct in thinking the SQ4U app only allows access to the assigned aux?
You should assign user names and passwords and lock things down at the SQ end, otherwise people will ‘play’ and potentially mess things up…
You don’t have to of course…
If you don’t, the SQ4You user has access to ability to change the AUX mix assignment and mess around with someone else’s mix (either by accident or maliciously).
Dave
So on the SQ end, assign username and password. After that we select the aux for that user and from there they can only access that aux? Is that correct?
Not quite… Magic doesn’t happen on its own!
On the SQ end you need to assign permissions for the logon you have created.
Limit their acess to only the SQ4You app and further limit their access to their assigned AUX channel.
Once logged into the SQ desk, the only thing that the SQ4You user can then do is to select their assigned AUX channel and adjust the mix for that AUX.
Of course, you can do this in stages…
Create the username and password. Then test with SQ4You.
Next, limit the App usage for that username to SQ4You only then test again.
Next, limit the AUX usage for that username to the assigned AUX for that user and test again. This time, deliberately try with the SQ4You app to select a different AUX. The SQ permissions should prevent this.
Implementing things this way stops a user from downloading (say) mixpad and using their assigned username and password to bypass the permissions. That username and password is only valid for the SQ4You app and a subset of permissions to do things.

Great, thanks. I have done this, how sbout the peq and geq, if we leave that option accessible will it only affect their aux channel?
The answer should be yes.
If I remember our setup, if you control access only to the assigned AUX channel, then you can’t select another AUX channel, so it should not be possible to adjust the EQ of something that you cannot select in the first place.
After making a change, you should test the configuration to see if you can break it!
Try and login using mixpad and see if it will let you (it shouldn’t because that login should only be configured to host the SQ4You app).
Try and select the correct AUX channel, and the other AUX channels using the SQ4You app. You should only be able to select the AUX permitted by the login account.
Make sure that the login account can select the input faders for their permitted AUX, adjust them to form their own mix, and adjust the EQ and compressor on the SQ4You app for their assigned AUX channel.
Basically, make sure the SQ4You app works correctly for the user but that they cannot do anything else (either accidentally or maliciously).
Another thought for you to consider: You can have a user account for each musician (with each user account locked to their specific AUX channel) or one user account for all of the musicians.
The former method is the way we have gone - to make it foolproof. However, this involves multiple musician accounts to be created, each one being slightly different.
The latter method is simpler for you (because there is only one musician user account). You permit access to ALL of the foldback AUX channels for each musician using this account. Each musician should select their own AUX channel.
If they get it wrong, the worst that can happen is that the musicians ‘mess up’ their own foldbacks, but they can’t mess up your SQ settings because of the permissions set on their user account.
This ‘should’ work, but I have never tried it myself…
