I have been hacking away at learning this board, running sound and rewiring the church for the past year. First run at running sound I had to have a laptop out with the manual up. HAHA! I have figured out how to do many things and make things work but as I am cleaning up the stage and making larger changes I am running into some problems. I might break up the issues into separate posts.
I rewired the stage so that the lines wouldn’t run all the way across the stage. As you can see on the photo for our drum kit, the IP is still set to 10 which is the original line, even though I reset it to Line 1 (or line 25 actually because it is in the expansion that starts after line 24)
It has also remained as line 10 in the strip assignment.
This happened on every single instrument and mic that we rewired to a different xlr line on the stage. It is confusing for not only me but especially our volunteers. I’m tempted to go into our attic and just simply reassign all of the stage boxes and have the wires out of order going to the rack in order to fix it. However, I don’t want to have to do this every time we make a change or if people make a change in the future. There has to be a way to fix this.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
Ok thanks that does make sense! It is a bit confusing when moving around on the screen but, I can adjust my expectations. The original set up on the board was done in such a way that the IP number matched the input socket. Also, when I added a mic to an unused line, it automatically matched the input socket and the IP so I assumed that they should match up.
One weird thing that happened after I moved the lines on the stage (in this case line 10 to line 25) was the mix in the front monitors. Hopefully, my explanation of this will make sense.
I realized that even with the drum kit muted and the drum dca muted, we were getting sound from the drum kit in the front monitors.
When I unmuted the drum kit, I could add volume by mixing to the front monitor.
I looked all over the place for some reason for a bit before deciding to just try taking signals in and out of the routing for the front monitor.
I thought we might be getting sound from line 10 for some reason even though nothing was plugged into that line on the stage (not understanding what you explained above) so I turned it off and lost the ability to adjust the volume to that monitor so I turned it back on.
It didn’t make sense to me at the time but, I turned off line 25 to the front monitor and that removed the sound from the drum kit that I couldn’t mute or adjust and I was able to control the mix at that point.
I am wondering why I could be getting that direct sound from IP25 if I don’t have anything in IP25.
Perhaps the following recommendation:
For me it was always much clearer to do the patching on the I/O screen provided for this purpose.
There you can see the input and output sockets of your connected digital stage boxes and the console (on 3 tabs) and can link (patch) these with the desired input and output channels, to which you may have already given (meaningful) names.
When everything is patched, you can arrange the channels on your console in the way that makes the most sense for the respective use.
