And it is amazing. Vocal tuner is like an easy button (as long as I remember to set to correct key). Spaces reverbs sound great. Very excited to continue exploring.
I’d be curious to hear about the experience. Not a technical “how to”, but just an overview of how hard/complicated the process was (or wasn’t). Rumors are that it is harder to access the internal expansion card slot than the DLive system. Did you have to remove a lot of other components/boards to be able to install it, etc, etc, etc?
It did take a fair amount of disassembly. I had previously replaced the fader boards so I was comfortable with the internals but this card is mounted much deeper into the console- it’s basically right below the AES output ports. It is VERY clear where it’s supposed to land.
I did not have to remove any of the internal PCBs but I did have to remove the bottom/rear panel that houses the XLR connectors which meant disconnecting several power supply and internal signal/USB connectors and snipping a few zip ties.
The process took about an hour but I was intentionally taking my time and taking lots of pictures to make sure I put everything back in the right place, including zip ties (which are provided with the card for easy replacement).
Overall I would rate the process as not DIY friendly but doable by someone comfortable/experienced working with the internals of this type of hardware.
Also my console is already out of warranty so I had no fear of voiding it.
It is an amazing upgrade takes the console to another level for sure. I bought my one very early but it is only in the last 18 months I have had the chance to use it extensively. I must admit I am really liking the whole experience, still love using D-Live but for some shows the Avantis is absolutely perfect, now with the upgrade even more so. If you spend a bit of time editing the spaces you find some amazing sounds, especially the dark kind.![]()
How is the Vocal Tuner compared to the waves version?
The verbs sound amazing and the harmonized is very very good.
