Integrating Avantis with Q-SYS for Automated Control in Fixed Installations

Hello Avantis users,

I’m an AV integrator working on a theater installation using an Avantis mixer (firmware V1.30) for live performances and events. We’re looking to integrate the Avantis with a Q-SYS control system to automate certain functions, such as recalling scenes, adjusting fader levels, and muting channels based on show cues. I’ve reviewed the Avantis TCP/IP control protocol documentation, but I’m seeking real-world advice on setting up this integration efficiently.

Has anyone successfully integrated their Avantis with Q-SYS or similar control systems (e.g., Crestron, AMX)? I’m particularly interested in:

Recommended workflows for mapping Avantis parameters to Q-SYS control points.

Any challenges with latency or reliability when sending TCP/IP commands during live events.

Tips for testing and debugging the integration to ensure stability under show conditions.

I’d love to hear about your experiences, configurations, or any pitfalls to avoid when combining Avantis with third-party control systems. Thanks for sharing your insights!

Best, David James

MIDI (via the TCP/IP control protocol) is really the only solution here, and as long as you keep in mind that the MIDI implementation is fairly limited, you won’t be disappointed. Loading scenes, muting channels or mute groups, changing fader levels, activating soft keys, etc are all easily accomplished through MIDI commands. However much of the “more advanced” functionality of the console simply isn’t going to be available via MIDI commands directly.

Of course one “work around” is potentially using scenes to make these changes. That is assuming the scene recall filters are granular enough to block out all unneeded settings and allow you to only make the desired changes.

Another work around is if you can program the desired functionality to a soft key. You can easily activate softkeys via MIDI, so that is also an option. The drawback is that the softkey programming is pretty limited IMHO.
