I’m new to the AHM, so it’s quite possible I’m missing something.
I have programmed an AHM-16 and IP1 to control the volume of 3 different sources going to a stereo output. But what I’m really controlling is the volume at the crosspoint to the output, not the actual input level. The problem is that the system is set up as stereo mains, and aux fed subs (outputs 1/2 are the mains, output 3 is the subs). I can program the IP1 to adjust 1/2 or 3, but not both at the same time. This is fine for microphones, but I’d like the stereo music input to also feed the the sub output and track whatever the main stereo outputs are doing.
Am I missing something, or is there a workaround for this? The Controller config table is set up as follows:
Function: XPoint I/P Select
Zone: 1/2 Zone 1 (left and right main outputs to speakers)
Min Input: 5 Mic 1
Max Input: 7/8 Music
What I really need to do is control both Zones 1 and 3 at the same time. Another preset on the AHM takes an external console into the first 3 inputs (L/R/SUB) and routes to Zone 1 (L/R) and Zone 3 (SUB). No volume control is required there, just unity gain through the AHM.
I’m not super familiar with the AHM system, but I would be shocked if you couldn’t put all of the elements of the PA (Main L/R stereo buss + Sub aux) into a stereo Matrix buss and then control the Matrix buss level from the IP1.
I think the best solution would be to spare a stereo Zone channel as a submix before you hit your actual output Zones. Typically in AHM you would use a Zone and Speaker Processing outputs for this, but given your console needs a direct feed to the sub channel, I would mix Mic 1 through to 7/8 Music into a Zone, then use the Zone to Zone routing to send this into the LR and Sub output Zones.
Alternatively, the workaround to control multiple input levels from a single IP1 is to create presets with different functions assigned to the IP1. These can be scoped so they would only change the IP1 configuration and nothing else. The main IP1 function would be Preset selection e.g. 1 to 4, but the secondary (press) function would change in each Preset to give you input level control of Mic 1 through to 7/8 Music.
I think I see what you’re getting at in the first example. I have plenty of “virtual” inputs and outputs left to do this, even if I’m almost out of analog inputs. I just have to figure out how to get an output back to an input, while staying inside the box.
You don’t need to get an output back to an input. AHM allows Zone to Zone routing in the Assign screen. Think of it as a Group to a Matrix in the live console world.
