I use an iPad for controlling my CQ20 but need to get another tablet for another band mate to have control. I am looking at an Android, purely on cost, tablet so will a 1280x 800 res be OK and what are minimum specs?
I was curious if anyone else would post/answer your question. Since no one has yet, I guess I’ll give my 2 cents.
Let me start by saying that I regularly mix using a Google Pixel Tablet which is an 11" tablet with 2560x1600 resolution. Literally 90% of my mixing is currently done using the tablet.
I personally would not enjoy mixing on a tablet with that low of a resolution. However you didn’t share the screen size either. Obviously the smaller the screen, the less annoying the small resolution is going to be. However it is very common for the “cheap” Android tablets to have relatively large screen sizes with relatively low resolution. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out you were looking at a 10" tablet with that relatively low resolution.
That being said, if your band mate only need it to adjust his mix a couple of times during a show, and he it isn’t going to be used to actively mix the entire show, a low resolution might work fine. It wouldn’t be ideal, but you don’t really need ideal when you might only interact with the device a total of 60 seconds during a 60 minute show.
I, too, would assume that you won’t have any issues with this resolution, especially since the CQ-MixPad GUI is designed to be very simple in this regard.
You could even test this yourself by installing MixPad on a Windows PC, for example, and temporarily changing the screen resolution to the desired setting.
Here is an image scaled to your 1280 x 800 resolution.
Android 6 (from 2015).
Our apps do require a 64-bit OS, though - this can be a little difficult to identify on the cheaper Android tablets.
The easiest “tell” is that the tablet will have more than 4GB of RAM.
Sometimes, even if the hardware is 64-bit capable and it has 4GB or less, it may still be running a 32-bit OS on the cheaper hardware.
32-bit Android is not compatible with our apps.
It is 64 bit and the resolution is more than enough. I saw one online, warehoused in the UK and it was £37, about $50 US. It works fine with Mixpad but like my older Lenovo, it is slightly laggy in operation. I am going to try it with Mixing Station.
