Is bussing possible?

Is it possible to route tracks to a bus (not a dca)?

For example I’d like to send all vocals to a bus then compress the entire bus before hitting the main outs.

Not really - the CQ does not feature Groups, so the only way to do this would be to physically connect an output back to an input channel.
For group processing, you would be looking at the Qu range (except the Qu-16) or jumping up to SQ.

Thanks,
Keith.

Unfortunately, this is not possible because your CQ does not have such buses (groups).
See also the block diagram on page 146 of your manual.

That was what I thought of first, too, as this can sometimes solve a lack of routing options.
But the lack of an option to simply unassign the relevant channels from Main L/R seems to make things confusing.
Because he would no longer be able to use his vocal faders individually in the Main mix, but would have to set them to infinity.

Just in case anyone comes across this thread I was able to get the ‘buss compression’ I needed by:

Send vocal tracks pre-fader to Aux 5
Mute Vocal tracks
Connect Aux 5 to open input (ch 5)
Adjust individual levels by adjusting send levels
Apply FX I need to channel 5

Some things to note:

Muting the channel also mutes the FX send which I find is a curious decision. This means I can’t apply FX individually, nbd deal in this case but in some scenarios this might be an issue.
When setting the send to pre-fader the EQ settings are included but the compressor is not. Again a curious choice. This means I can’t individually compress each channel.

I like to mix live similar to how I mix in my DAW. Mixing Station is great but I’m considering sending the CQ back and jumping up to the QU-24.

I don’t have a CQ, but in the block diagram I can see that when you press Mute, not only the FX but also the Aux are muted (yellow in the picture).
So, according to my theory, the option to only send to an Aux would be to close the channel fader to infinity, as already mentioned.
But that also means the FX is lost - maybe not so great for vocals.

which I find is a curious decision.
But it is the absolute standard.
You use Mute, for example, if you want to disconnect a microphone without hearing a bang - also not as an FX.
Mute should be really mute.

In the block diagram I can see that there are two source points - the second after the compressor (red in the picture).

It would be nice if you could test my theories again in practice.

I see your point. I guess I’m accustomed to ProTools and other DAWs where channel mute does not affect sends when the send is set to pre-fader.

Thanks for the diagram markup. When I discovered that I wasn’t getting compression I assumed I was doing something wrong and spent about 30 minutes trying different things unsuccesfully. However it is possible that I’ve missed something so I’ll go through this again soon and get back with you here.

But it was probably right next to each other on the same screen (see manual on page 67f).

Holy balls I can’t believe I missed that. I know exactly the page and mixer setting you are referring to and I’ve looked at it 1,000 times! My bad!
