Is it possible to downgrade from Avantis V2.0 firmware back to V1.36?

Dear Allen & Heath Technical Support Team,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am currently using an Avantis mixing console and have recently upgraded the firmware to version 2.0. This was a standard firmware update only, and I have not purchased or enabled any additional options such as dPack or RackUltra FX.

Following the upgrade, I have encountered an issue where audio file names stored on a USB drive—previously displayed correctly—are no longer showing Chinese characters properly. The text appears unreadable or incorrectly rendered. This issue did not occur when the console was running firmware version 1.36.

I would therefore like to seek your advice on the following:

  1. Is it possible to downgrade the firmware from version 2.0 back to version 1.36?

  2. If a downgrade is possible, are there any associated risks, such as:

    • Loss of user data or settings

    • Show file compatibility issues

    • Potential system instability or unexpected behaviour

  3. Are you aware of this issue with Chinese character display, and is there a recommended solution or upcoming firmware fix?

This matter is affecting my day-to-day use, so I would greatly appreciate your guidance in determining the best course of action.

Thank you very much for your time and support.

Hi Jeffery,

We are not aware of an issue with Chinese chracter display, but we definitely want to know more about this.

In response to your questions:

  1. Yes you can definitely downgrade to 1.36.
  2. Show files are not backwards compatible across major releases (V2.x to V 1.x). In this case, if you’ve created a new show file or stored a show file in V2.0 it will not be compatible with 1.36. It is expected and quite common to downgrade, so there is no concern about system instability. User data and settings are stored in the Show file, so if you have a 1.x version show, reloading it on the Avantis that has been downgraded to 1.36 will not lose any settings or data.

Thanks for the detailed reply! Will email support with details.
