Hi all, I am new to A&H Controllers and I just got the K3 for my live setup (Using Traktor & Ableton with the K3 controlling Traktor). Got a few issues/questions right out of the box where the manual did not provide clear information:
Is it normal, that the controller editor will NOT recognize the K3 if connected via XLINK to the Xone:96 (which is connected via USB to my MacBook Pro)?
Is there no “official” K3 Traktor mapping still? => Do people even use the controller editor for this or does it all happen in Traktor?

Yes it is normal for K3 to be not recognized as a separate USB device. But computer should receive K3 MIDI messages via Xone96. The only nuance - I think You need to use any power supply via USB type C cable (phone charger for example) to power up the device which is connected via Xlink.
Old K2 mapping should work because K3 is the same device.
It’s is important to notice, You need to update firmware of your K3 with the Xone Controller Editor application.
So with that said, the X-Link Function is now pretty useless using it this way right ?
So when i connect one K3 to the Xone 96 with X-Link and a second K3 with Network Cable to the first K3 (like i was always using it with my K2s), it will not work like that anymore ?
So what is X-Link good for then and why it still exist ? Controller Editor is not reconizing the Controllers this way and i cant use it the way i always did in the past with my K2s, useless
You are still using only one USB port to connect both K3 devices to the computer. But the second device needs power supply (aforementioned phone charger). I think this is this way because there is more lightning LEDs on the K3. Secondary K3 will send all the midi commands via primary device which is connected with USB cable.
No Bro, i tested it today, it works without ANY Power Supply in my Case when u have a Xone 96.
From the 96 to the first K3, from the first K3 to the second K3, exactly like it was with the old K2s, i think they fixed it with the last Firmware Update. Before it wasnt working like this im pretty sure.
Without a Xone 96 or X-Link compatible Mixer… its another Story of course.
X-Link from the Xone 96 to first K3 OUT and from first K3 IN to second K3 OUT. Im very sure that it didnt worked when the K3 released last year. I have read alot of People complaining that it wasnt working the same way it worked with the K2s. Well, now its working perfectly, dont know if it changed with the latest Firmware or something.
When they released the first—and only—update, A&H mentioned that they were aware of LED issues with the XLink connections and that they were working on it, but it must not be a high priority for them. It’s a shame that the Xone K3 was released in this state; there’s also no word on the community’s request to be able to map the LEDs via MIDI 0-127. I’m a bit disappointed—this controller has potential that isn’t being realized…
