Working on an Avantis last night I experienced some very glitchy behaviour with the main left rotary controller. Thats the controller ‘pot’ that eq changes etc are made with, just under the trio of compressor controllers.
At time I could not adjust q at all, and moving frequency or gain was very, very jump. Basically unusable. This was happening during soundcheck about an hour after switching on the desk. Later on in the show normal function seemed to come back. Not likely to be a condensation issue though as desk is permanently in that room.
Has anyone else experienced this?
If it happens again is it possible to reassign the compressor ‘pots’ to eq functions? or the assignable per channel rotary controller that I usually have set to gain or pan?
I have the same issue with the Right Control Rotary. This console has never travelled and has always been in my studio. This has been occurring for about 2 months.
Perhaps the console was also in a smokers environment at some point …
These two knobs will be the ones that wear out the most due to frequent use.
Then they’ll need to be replaced or perhaps only cleaned.
But unlike the theme starter, you probably know that in addition to using the touchscreen for EQing, you can even assign the 12 EQ knobs to the channel strip rotaries.
It takes a bit of getting used to, but it’s better than nothing.
12 dedicated EQ knobs are a wonderful luxury, one that the inexpensive QU, for example, also has.
Unfortunately, these 12 were reduced to 3 in the successor, the SQ. (
So enjoy these 12 knobs really! )
