m-waves card tested ...

Hi!

I tested the first waves card in Austria with my IDR48 today - and I must say: amazing!

Why:

-) No licenses subjects such as in dante (plug’n’play on computers, where the sg driver is installed)

-) sg driver of waves (asio + coreaudio) is programmed very well (latency down to 80 samples = 1,6ms)!

-) It is recognized immediately with logic, cubase,…

-) Tested also with multirack native for live plug-ins → that is the main subject!

just with the sg driver on 80 samples without clicks, pops, …

(of course latency from the used plugs must be added - but in my case I do not come over 4ms and that’s very good for foh-processing!

→ Dante has by itself (with its dvs) 4ms: -/

one issue i have found:

I could not use 64 in/outs with the sg driver - just 32 in/outs could have been activated, yet. therefore i’m in correspondence with waves in US.

=> first conclusion: thumbsup for m waves

Dumb question - does it not have to be used with the Waves Server?

no - not imperatively because if the sg driver (for mac and pc)

i receive the full 64 Channels on my system.

Simple Setup: Waves into MacBook with Cat6 cable.

Also only SGD.

MB you have to replace the cable?

Native multirack is working?

Did I read this right?

Could you share the hardware specs of your computer running multirack native?

I can’t help but drooling…

hi!

yes - it works fine with multirack native, because you just need a driver and a soundcard.

and the waves card is a soundcard  … the sg driver is very well programmed!

i’m using following laptop live:

macbook (black), 2x2,2ghz core2duo, 4gb ram, 7200 seagate momentus hdd, directly conntected with cat5e (or better cat6) via gigbit-port to the wave-card.

and it works fine with logic, too (recording and playback) … very easy to configure (there is no patching needed like with the dante  )

Mac, it means you deal with core audio drivers.

Therefore you can do both recording and multirack native at the same time in the same mac computer.

Did I get it right?

Asio won’t let you share its drivers. Either multirack or daw.

Now the question is if m-waves system supports more than one asio driver in the network…

Can 2 pc laptops (2 asio drivers) function properly in the same network like Dante’s DVS?

Or should I adjust my budget for a mac computer after the m-waves card?

if you use multirack with SG server you will get less latency or not?

for sure - if you buy e.g. the waves soundgrid server one you get allover roundtrip latency of about 1ms!!

but i do not want to buy a sg server (now). i use my multirack native with the sg driver.

i put 80 samples for the waves card and had 64 samples latency within the multirack plugs.

that makes a troughput ((allover) latency of round 3ms  fine!

Soundgrid server requires TDM version plugins. So, if you only have native waves plugin licenses, more Benjamins need to go out of the window. I’m surprised waves didn’t do anything to avoid native multirack.

yep - to use the soundgrid server you have to buy tdms or upgrade your natives.

and one more time: you can use multirack native with the card! of course - because of the sg driver !!!

Hi,

I connected my Waves card and tried to set it up.

The IDRbox found the Waves card and it showed up on the Port B tab.

Then I did the SG setup, it didn’t find the iLive at first, but later it did.

I then pressed the update tabs in the Multirack SG inventory window.

After this my Waves card is not showing up either on the surface, Editor or Multirack Soundgrid.

I’ve tried to restart several times and even taking the card out and put it back in again.

But it still doesn’t show up anywhere…

Any ideas?
