Hi all, we have a Qu-24 desk and run that to a AR2412 rack and then run 7 ME-1’s from the ME-U POE rack. We’ve connected all 7 ME-1’s with individual Cat5E cables to the ME-U and a Cat 5E cable between the AR2412 and the ME-U. We are getting occasional drop out which as you can imagine is causing some concern amongst the musicians! Should we use a Cat6 cable between the ME-U and AR2412?
The ME system uses 10/100 ethernet, so it definitely should work without any problems over Cat5e cable. That being said, I would certainly look at the cabling and connections because that is the most likely reason from random dropouts.
Also, just to confirm, the QU console is connected directly to the ME-U and the individual ME units are connected directly to the ME-U, correct? These systems are designed for direct connections. There shouldn’t be any other devices (switches, boosters, etc) connected.
Are they dropping out right at the end of the chain?
You might have to try a local network switch, even a dumb switch to provide the network to the devices instead of the daisy chain setup.
Hi, thanks for the advice will inspect the cables/connections. No the QU-24 is connected by digital snake to the AR2412 which then feeds via the monitor out port the ME-U which in turn has 7 connections to the ME-1 units. There are no other devices in the chain.
Hi there,
No the signal drops out to all ME-1’s with no power drop out.
Sorry meant to have said the ME-1’s are fed from the ME-U in parallel - so individual cables from the ME-U to each ME-1.
I’ve purchased a short Cat6 cable to connect between the monitor out from the AR2412 to the ME-U and see this Sunday whether there is any drop out. Do you think its somehow a bandwidth issue? Any help appreciated.
Again, it’s not a bandwidth issue. The ME system doesn’t even use Gigabit speed. It uses fast ethernet which maxes out a 100Mbps speed. That means that even between the ME-U and the console (with all of the individual ME unit’s data being transmitted), the max data rate is only 100Mbps. Even old Cat5 cable (ie below Cat5e cable) is rated to handle to handle 100Mbps.
It very well may be a cable issue, but it is not a bandwidth issue.
Having the same issue. We have a dlive s7000 console and DM64 mixrack along with the ME-U. All 5 ME-1’s lose sound for 5-7 seconds randomly. Using cat6 cables for everything.
