ME1s rarely power up with desired button assignments

We are a church running an SQ7 into an GX4816 into an ME-U, and then six ME1 personal mixers. The SQ7 is running V1.6, while the ME-1 mixers were already shipped with V1.17r61242.

Our problem is that every time we come to use this setup the ME1’s have various channels missing from the key assignments and occasionally stereo channels only have one channel active.

Our best coping strategy has been to store a sane configuration in memory 1 and attempt to train musicians to recall that memory at the start of each sound check. Unfortunately, this is only partially successful due to human factors, such as guest musicians not knowing what to do and the slight ergonomic challenge of recalling a from memory requiring a double key press while holding down recall.

I’ve seen this discussed in similar old threads, but unfortunately I haven’t seen a solution recommended. I can’t believe the difficulty we’re facing is the way things are for everyone, so I wanted to give this matter another chance of having a publicly available resolution.

Thanks in advance for any and all help on this issue.

Charles.

The ME firmware and the SQ firmware are independent of each other. It’s only happen stance that they are even close in version number (1.16 vs 1.17). In other words, there is no problem with the fact that the ME firmware version doesn’t match the SQ firmware version. It would be a completely random chance if they did happen to match.

EDIT - you are using a ME-U. I agree with electrohandyman that you probably need to go into each ME1 and double check how the inputs have been set up. They can be set up to automatically get their names from the console/ME-U or they can be set up to use custom names which are static and set on a “per device” basis. It may be that some units are set up using these custom/static names for some of their inputs and it is causing confusion. It sounds like you want all of the inputs to be set up to use the automatic names.

While we recently sold our ME system, we previously had 8 ME units connected to a ME-U. We used this system with a GX4816 connected to an Avantis, and then later connected directly to a DLive Mixrack. Honestly I never had trouble with the units not recalling the last used setup prior to shutdown. Whenever the system was powered back on again, the units always went back to the previous status with regard to channels and send levels.

How is your ME-U setup. Is it set to ‘automatically’ send channel info from the system to the ME-1’s, or do you have it set static.

Do you have your preferred channel configuration saved static in the ME-1 firmware? or is it set to automatic to receive from the ME-U.

How long has this been happening. It sounds to me like you are missing something in the setup/config of the ME system between the ME-U and the ME-1’s.

Take a look at my reply here: https://forums.allen-heath.com/t/key-unassigned/2390

In short, in my experience when you recall scenes with different ME-1 patching (especially differences in stereo linking) sometimes you end up with keys becoming unassigned.
