Meter malfunction on MixWiz 16:2 DX

I have a Mix Wizard 16:2 Dx, original series. I opened it up recently to chase down a (unrelated) problem and now that it’s put back together the metering is screwy. With no channels activated, the meter lights up all the way into the red. Activating a channel causes the meter to fall back to zero. Additionally, the PFL function doesn’t seem to work. If I crank the gain and bellow into the mic, it sometimes briefly registers but nothing consistent or useful. As far as I can tell, everything else functions normally. Actual sound output is fine.

Any ideas as to what I might have knocked out of place while I was tinkering around inside? Thanks!

ps. Just because I expect someone to ask, the problem I was initially chasing down turned out to be a faulty mic cable. I decided to open up the mixer a couple of weeks ago because I had a dead channel and a pan pot that wasn’t panning. I quickly discovered that getting inside was going to be a bigger project than anticipated. However, when I was screwing it back together, the in/out section slipped and collapsed flat. It seemed likely that some of the ribbon connectors might have been yanked too hard by the collapse. When I tested the mixer and heard horrible sounds, I figured that’s what happened. I reseated and hot glued a couple of loose ribbon connectors once I was inside. It was after that I discovered that the mic cable was the true source of the horrible sounds. Reseating the cables did bring my “dead” channel back though. But now I’ve got this meter problem…

Unfortunately, the forum is once again swallowing up posts, then telling me that I’m too quick and want to post the same thing again.
In a pinch, I’ll try using a screen shot.

Check all the ribbon cable connections.

Did you disconnect any of the ribbon cables when you opened it up?

Hi guys, thanks for replying. I actually opened it up again yesterday. The hot glue I used to secure the ribbon cables turned out to be pretty useless. I reseated about 8 connectors and used silicone this time. Still having the same issues though.

I also discovered that my ST1 and ST2 LR pots are noisy now. No amount of twisting/spraying DeOxit seems to improve it.

The other weird thing I noticed: The light for the channel 3 “on” switch is fickle. The channel is on but the light won’t illuminate unless I jiggle it. When I do that, the maxed out meter returns to normal. With the light off, even though the channel is active, the meter shoots back into the red. So it seems like there’s something about whatever is telling lights to light up that’s gotten wonky. I get solid meter readings from the main outputs with no PFL engaged. With any PFL on, I get nothing.

I’m afraid you’d be better off entrusting the console to A&H or another service with experience in such matters.
In the latter case, it might be helpful to include the service manual.
