Midi Control App Windows not creating midi port

Hi there, i have the midi control software for mac working perfectly fine and then i also installed on it on a windows machine as i need two different machines to be able to send messages and control the board.

On the windows machine i can install it, select avantis, select tcp, it finds the avantis, i check the connect box and it shows connected.

However the midi port i expect to be created and available is not there. I tried using midi viewer app and another app to find it but its not there.

Any ideas?

Has anyone received an answer on this? The ports were created OK for me (Windows 11) previously but with the new Windows 11 MIDI stack, I don’t see the MIDI control ports being created.

This issue seems to be caused by the Windows update that introduces the new MIDI stack - KB5077181.
There’s a few ways to fix it.

Go to your Windows Update history and, if you have it, uninstall that update.

Or,

  1. Allen & Heath MIDI Control should be running and your DAW should be closed.
  2. Open Terminal/CMD as administrator
  3. Type net stop midisrv
  4. After it completes, type net start midisrv
  5. Close/exit A&H MIDI control
  6. Start A&H MIDI Control
  7. Launch your DAW. Control should be restored.

You’ll most likely need to do this on each boot until Microsoft patch the release.
