Hey, just got the cq18t, it’s super! I, like a lot of others, like to keep as dawless a setup as possible. I primarily make music with an elektron analog keys, but add guitars, bass and vocals for live performance. Naturally the degree of control and quality offered by the mixer is a game changer for this in particular the capability for scene changes in the mixer (balance, filtering, dynamisc control+fx) to change over midi with scene changes in the synth (sounds, some filter control primarily)
Like a lot of similar dawless (or daw) users with a similar setup, the elektron A4/Keys scene changes are (lazily imo) aligned with programme changes. So 1-128 scenes in a project align with programme change signals. So technically you could align 100 scenes to a project. However realistically the mix is going to be probably the same for most synth scenes with some deviations (boost guitar for certain parts, etc).
Thus, it would be far more ideal for users to be able to use a midi cc note or similar to trigger cq scenes (thus bring able to make more efficient use of the scenes). For the A4/K the separate midi track could do this, but for a lot of other setups this flexibility would also be better. Also in general programme changes are very inflexible.
So in summary it would be great to see more flexibility in how the midi can be used to change scenes (but maybe more generally). Perhaps I’m missing something in the current setup that would allow this but seems to be that way from what I’ve read.
Fyi i know this like the cme h4midi_wc can translate midi cc notes to programme changes as desired but when the midi scene changing functionality is already implemented it seems a shame for it not to be more flexible.
Hello.
You can actually recall scene via note if you use the soft key.
Or have the “scene previous” and “scene next” also available via the soft key.
Maybe not as user friendly as you would like but it can be done.
And the other solution is using USB hub, as you mention, the H4MIDI.
Thanks for the heads up frenchie! I might give that a go. More likely to get the h4 midi, just cos over multiple songs in a set would be tricky to get that working as desired. Generally seems a shame to have done all the hard work in getting scene changes to occur rapidly and then have such limited midi capability (albeit the vast majority of users will be sound engineers). There is a large body of dawless users, especially elektron users, who i think would jump on this though. For a long time the elektron community have been wondering when elektron would release a mixer to integrate with the synths, but this would do that and more. And needless to say the a4 sounds great through the a&h preamps!
I have just started experimenting dawless, for live.
Very small config, a CQ12T, an Ipad, a backing track and me.
I run loopy pro and stage traxx 3 on an Ipad.
Because the CQ12T have only 2FX slots and because I use the 2, one for rev and the other for double tracker (love it), I am missing an extra FX slot for delay with ducking capabilities.
Loopy Pro is in charge of the delay with the AUv3 plugin “NA delay 3000” from Nembrini.
The Mic goes from the CQ into Loopy Pro, FX is inserted (set to 100% Dry) and then routed to a CQ channel set to digital IN.
That channel on the CQ become my extra Delay FX.
I have added a tap tempo for the Delay inside Loopy Pro, controlled via stage traxx 3 (the 2 app can communicate via midi inside the ipad) so that I don’t need to jump btw the 2 app.
So all is OK like that for the moment with no external midi controller.
But I might need one, one day, for scene change.
Ideally it will be a BT midi a footswitch.
And to provide all the extra flexibility in Midi that the CQ is missing, the H4MIDI seems to be ideal.
Fully programmable, stand alone capabilities, BT midi (easy connexion with Ipad and midi controller) and all other things that I haven’t think about yet.
