New owner of a 7D here, setting everything up. I’d like to connect it in three ways:
- USB to computer for recording
- Local network for Mixpad
- MIDI over network to Dante
I would like to use my MIDI sequencer to work with the 7D and hope I can make that work with the Dante port. The manual says the following;
When the Control Network Bridge is on, the Dante port is internally connected (bridged) to the Qu Network port. This allows a computer connected to the Dante network to also control the Qu using remote apps or MIDI over TCP/IP, or for a computer connected to the Qu’s Network port to run Dante Controller and adjust patching or device settings.
So what I’m considering is getting a BomeBox, plug that into the Dante port and set it up as explained here.
This way I hope I can change scenes and control other properties of the mixer over DIN MIDI from my sequencer, even if my computer is not one.
Before I order the BomeBox, does this scenario make sense?
It makes sense and as far as I understand how the BomeBox works, it should work. That being said, I’ve never had first hand experience with the BomeBox.
Also, you can simply plug the BomeBox into the local network that you are creating for the QU. It doesn’t have to be plugged into the Dante port, and you don’t have to turn on the Dante bridge option to make it work. Personally I would recommend keeping the Dante network separate from any other network use. The Dante network will be more stable/reliable if you do that.

Ah that’s a good one, BomeBox on the same network as I’m using for Mixpad makes sense, I’ll try that first!
Hi, Steve Caldwell with Bome Here.
The BomeBox will work fine on the same network as Dante. It does not process or modify the Dante stream, it just routes it through as an Ethernet switch. The MIDI stream is piggy backed on it, and you can use both Ethernet ports on the BomeBox to connect everything. The BomeBox will also work as a network router (for example, DHCP server) if needed.

Excellent, glad that Bome is on the forum!
Now the only question is when the BomeBox 2 will arrive and how much it’ll cost, to decide if I’ll go for the v1 or the new one. I don’t really need the v2 features right now but always good to be future proofed.
Edit - looks like the BomeBox v1 isn’t available anywhere anymore anyway so I’ll have to wait for the V2.
Hi, we have a shortage of BomeBox 1 but should have some in the late spring. If you want to reserve one, please email us (via our contact page). We have not yet set the price of BomeBox 2 yet as far as I know. You can also ask in your email but I personally do not know. It is best to use the Contact page to get in touch.
