Multitrack playback via USB and simultaneous SD recording

I am researching if a CQ20B is right for me. My performance requires playing back multiple backing tracks from a USB connected iPad while also having some instruments live. So far so good - the mixer can do that.

My question is; while doing the above, can I also record the entire mix (meaning the live, plus the backing tracks channels) to the SD? As stereo? As multitrack?

You can’t do this via USB (see here). But you could use the iPad connecting it via Bluetooth (as an normal input) and record all together as multitrack.

Thanks! The article you shared is for SQ but until I hear otherwise I will assume you know it applies on CQ as well.

Your suggestion would not help me because I need multitrack playback from the iPad, not stereo. Which I believe Bluetooth is.

You cannot play and record at the same time as both the SD and USB stick share the same hardware.

You can record multitrack in a SD card while play multitrack from Ipad. Tested with 6 stereo tracks played from Ipad Pro and record ALL plus 2 mics and a stereo guitar (kemper)

Wow, if that is correct then the rest are wrong and I’m very pleased.

It’s not that I think it can be done, it’s that I’ve done it (I recorded an entire concert on separate tracks while playing back my multitrack recorder from the iPad; both the tracks from the analog inputs and the tracks played from the iPad were recorded perfectly), that’s why I’m sure it can be done

Thank you for confirming that. Awaiting shipping, then I’ll be doing the same on my new CQ!
