I’m looking for a rack version of the mixer for my band.
Is it possible to use DM32 without a console?
I only want to use my iPad for sound mixing.
Will it be possible to record a multitrack?

Yes, I purchased a CDM32 for the exact same reason. I wanted to leave Behringer/Midas x/m platform and wanted better FX and routing capabilities. You do not need a mixing surface to use the mix rack by itself.
Here are the challenges I have run into though:
-You must have a Dante Card and Dante license to record to a laptop.
-The official iPad app is a limited.
-Mixing station will control all aspects of the mixer from an iPad but it has it’s own issues/quirks.
-Director is Allen and Heath’s official non-surface control method.
A couple of my own thoughts:
It’s not easy to get requests for the iPad app or the director application to be updated for functionality so download them and try them to make sure they are going to work for your needs.
I have found limitations and I am still trying to get my requests for updates to be heard.
EDIT - the DM32 IS a complete system with onboard I/O. In my unedited post, I was thinking the OP was asking about the DX32 (which is a “dumb” stage box only). So yes, the OP can get the DM32 and have a fully self contained system.
FYI - there is a more traditional “rack size” version of the DLive console. It is called the DM0 and it has no built in I/O (hence the “0” in the name). Therefore you must attach I/O via stage boxes or via a expansion card inserted into one of the three I/O card slots (so over Dante, GigaAce, Waves, Madi, etc).
