New QU-7 User, is there online Video Help for the Noob?

I’ve purchased the Allen&Heath QU-7 for a home studio … Wow , did i jump in the deep end without a rubber duck … the” tube” didn’t have info on this unit . Read the A&H book from cover to cover 3 times “( still have questions i still can’t answer .. anyone have a good video reference to help ???

Not sure if this is indepth enough, but no harm watching anyway.

Feel free to ask any specific questions you have and I’m sure one of the hive mind here can help.

If it helps, the set up is pretty much all the same across the QU-5.6 & 7 with the obvious fader estate difference so you could seek out resources for any of those 3 and it will give you what you need. Seeing as you have RTFM’d 3 times (fair play to you!) I think you are fully entitled to now ask your specific questions here for the community to help answer.

No problem. So if we talk specifics……

  1. What adjustments are you looking to make to your audio going from qu7 to Studio One? Is it routing challenges you are facing? If you are a windows user do you have an ASIO driver installed?

  2. Can you tell me what your scenario set up is? Eg are you recording in a live venue and multitracking from the QU7 to Studio One or are you recording in a controlled environment in the studio and using mostly over dubbing?

Thanks

Hey Nick ,

life interrupted.. 1. ASIO drivers installed and up to date . 2. hunting and pecking with this board when not hip with ROUTING, is making me KrAzY LoL .. one wrong button .” what happened to that channel an a half hour later oh that’s what happened “) I’m getting sound from QU thru USB . LR main fader, is this the right way for routing .but i’m recording in a live room with the Band …i have a front of house in the same room also with floor monitors it’s a multi mic bleeding Nightmare. But with analog, I could solve all these problems . learning digital is a tall & slow curve

I was just hoping for a magic bullet video series .. for QU 5,6,7 that’s not trying to sell me one or in Chinese … i’m a French pollock “)

MORE Hunting an Pecking and i will more intelligent questions .

Thankz “)

I would think you’re going to want a specific Mixbus going through USB into Studio One.

This can be identical to the main/LR/FOH if that mix is exactly how you want both at all times. If there’s anything that needs to be different, separate mixes need to be used.

No worries. If I understand your challenges correctly…. You want to be able to route individual and/or mix L/R channels through usb to S1. So routing wise just make sure your USB Outputs are assigned to the relevant ‘Ip Dir Out’s’. Then make sure your S1 routing matrix is bringing those usb outs into the daw on the right channels.

In terms of mic bleed from instruments….. as you are working in a “live” environment then unless you can use DI’s for applicable instruments (eg. Guitars, keys etc….) then you are going to have to work to optimise your mic positioning and mic selection (choosing best pole patterns), plus working your gates and expanders to your advantage.

To remove the bleed from onstage wedges then does the band have an option to utilise IEM’s at all?

thanks
