New Qu - Processing "Bank View"

I have the Qu-5D and I really feel like it is missing a “bank view” feature for overview of channel processing.

Particularly because the scribble strips don’t have reference to the assigned input colour, except onscreen in the top corner.

SQ does this very well!

On the new Qu, the information is all there, just not available in that 8 channel overview format.

Agreed. Long time SQ user. There’s a lot of info on that screen.

Noticed this straight away when testing ours. Such a great feature of any digital desk and I’m so used to seeing it on the SQ. It was jarring to have an empty screen on the QU5D.

Since even CQ has a bank view (see pic), I would like to assume that it was simply forgotten or there was a problem with the implementation and that it will be added later in any case - unless someone from A&H says that it was intentional and will remain so.

I am a long time SQ user as well.

I felt the same way. I felt like I was just missing something, when presented with the blank screen. But couldn’t find it, because it wasn’t there!

TL;DR
A processing/routing screen “Bank View” for the new QU range is not currently on any development roadmap, although also not ruled out.

I have a bit of an update on this, for those interested, after chatting with A&H support to find out a bit more info.

We had a lot of discussion during development of the new Qu about whether to go with ‘single channel’ or ‘bank view’ in the processing and routing screens.
The decision to go with single channel view won out due to it being the same as the original Qu, which the new Qu directly replaces, and because the feedback was that it was easier for less experienced users to follow.
This was not the same with CQ due to the lack of physical channel strips and controls, which meant we had to put the channel strips on screen for at least the faders and the processing screen followed from that for consistency.
We have certainly not ruled out having a bank view in future as an option, though it obviously requires R&D time, so hopefully your forum post (thanks for that) will get a lot of votes which would push it up the priority list.

And some of my followup thoughts:

With the QU as the natural step down from the SQ in the A&H lineup, it just feels like it is incomplete or inconsistent in terms of user experience to have that capability disappear with the in-between step from SQ to CQ.

Perhaps this could appear as a setting to be toggled in the menus, that way you can stay true to the original QU simplicity, but also give an option for consistent UX stepping up and down the A&H product range for those users who make use of multiple products within the full A&H range.

A&H need to see some interest in this feature/topic to consider developing it!

I have to say I agree with A&H here - the desk instantly gets more intimidating and complicated to use when you add more views.
I love the bank view on both dLive and SQ, and sure, I miss them when running the QU, but the church staff and others where we install them appreciate that the screen is either blank or shows a specific channel. The new QU is really impressive in how simple you can make a so competent mixer. Before I had tested the mixer and before purchase a customer asked how to “control multiple faders with one“ and I said I can show you but I think it’ll be too complicated for you to remember - the workflow in SQ or dLive would be a no go. I have to say I was shocked at how simple it was - and now they have two DCAs ready to assign among their faders.

Honestly when doing a gig where i need the bank view I’m going for the SQ anyways, although I understand not everybody has that option

So make it an option in settings.

I don’t disagree, the screen contains a lot of info, which is out of scope where there is a requirement for a super simple installation. True to the original nature of QU

Ship the QU with the “bank view” setting disabled by default.

But for those who utilise the larger A&H range for the purpose of their varying channel/bus capacities per application. It is definitely a jarring user experience. So many more button presses to see the info that on other consoles, both up and down the range, is readily available on one screen.

If people want this, you’re going to have to indicate your interest and vote for this feature.
