Does the new Qu series mixers require a D.I. box for guitar and bass?

As the inputs aren’t Hi-Z: Yes, if you usually use DI boxes for these instruments.

That’s nonsense.
Input Impedance >1.5kΩ MIC / >20kΩ TRS
Just plug it in and you’ll be fine, especially if there are any pedals involved.

The input impedance of a really good DI is > 1 MΩ, please compare it to 20 kΩ of the Qu input.

If the mixer is on stage, close to the instruments, you can try to connect them directly. For 10, 20, 30m to the desk, a DI is the tool of your choice. You get a symmetric signal with lower impedance for the long cable. With a passive DI you buy the lower impedance with a lower level (no problem for keyboards), with an active DI the level will stay in the same range (better for bassguitar…).
