I can see the preamp gain in the iPad App for every Input of the Mixrack. But not off the inputs on the C2500. Only Trim is available (see picture).
I have access to the preamp gain on the surface (yes it’s a analog input, not the digital).
I have a dLive mix rack + Surface. I use A&H mix pad on the iPad. Some channels show Socket preamp with Gain Setting plus Trim, others only show the Trim. All of these channels are analog channels connected to the mixrack or the surface. The analog channels connected to the Surface only show Trim. Does the Preamp only show for channels directly connected to the MixRack?
Systems with multiple physical surfaces behave in a similar way. Surface A cannot see or control (or patch) preamps on Surface B. If a channel with a “foreign” preamp is brought up on a surface strip, the preamp “does not exist” from its perspective and so the surface shows trim instead.
A MixPad app or Director instance that is connected to the Mix Rack is, for all practical purposes, a second surface for the Mix Rack. As such it cannot see preamps on another surface. Director (and possibly Mix Pad - i haven’t tried) can connect to the Surface instead of the Mix Rack. Under those circumstances, it is acting like a remote controller for the Surface and I would expect it to be able to see the surface’s preamps.
Alternatively, you can use the third party app Mixing Station instead of the A&H Mixpad app. It has most (if not all) of the functionality that director has which includes preamp gain. It also works on Android and iOS devices which is helpful. There is a licensing cost, but you can try it for free to make sure you like it.
I confirmed this morning that surface preamp control is not available on Mixing Station either. It appears that surface preamps can only be controlled by the surface where they are physically located (unless an app is able to control them by connecting to that physical surface)

You are right! Once you posted that, I remember reading that MS only connects to the Mixrack. It does not make a connection to the Surface. I suspect the A&H Mixpad app works the same way. This is why the surface preamp settings are not available. I suspect it is a fundamental limitation in how A&H makes the Mixrack and Surface data available in their underlying command protocol (ie the surface preamps data simply isn’t available in the MixRack command data)
