It’d be great if the gate side chain had an option for… I guess an “inverted notch”, where it ignores everything but a certain frequency. I. My case, there’s a guitarist I work with sometimes who’s got a pedal with like a 5 kHz whine. I currently use a LPF in the side chain, but the opposite of the current notch filter is what I actually want.
What is your overall goal? Using a gate would mean you would open/close the entire frequency range based on the present/absence of this 5kHz signal.
Without knowing the situation/goal fully, this sounds like a situation where you would want to cut/lower just the 5hKz signal when it is present. If that is the case, then the Dyn8’s Multiband EQ is probably a better solution for that.
Of course I could have completely misunderstood the situation too and this suggestion is way off base!
I want to key the gate by “everything except 5 kHz”. The current notch filter is by “only 5 kHz” (assuming you have it set to 5 kHz, of course).
Yes, you’re right that a Dyn8 can do it, but it seems a shame to burn an entire insert just to get a gate filter.
